"The kibble shortage is already visible at the shelter. Some dogs are losing weight, and for those who are already fragile, it's even worse. I have two with tumors—they should be eating more frequently and in larger quantities, but I simply don’t have enough. The little kibble I have left is low quality on top of that: the dogs have digestive issues, their stools are soft… It’s not normal.
We all know that a dog cannot be healthy without proper nutrition. If they eat enough, they have a chance to withstand the cold, life outdoors, and everything that comes with it. But right now, with so little kibble, it's just not possible.
Many of my dogs have been with me for 7 or 8 years. They are older, some have weaknesses. When kibble runs out, they are the first to suffer! They had regained their strength over time, but it takes very little for their problems to return. Without enough kibble, they will weaken, and their condition will only get worse..."
"Coca has a microchip showing that she was sterilized in a municipal shelter years ago, but the surgery was botched. The vet didn’t remove everything he should have, and because of this mistake, she developed a tumor in her abdomen. Now, the disease has spread to her organs, reaching her lungs and trachea. Her condition has worsened significantly.
Today, she is very weak. The tumor has drained all her energy, and she isn’t strong enough to undergo chemotherapy. Right now, it’s not even an option. The only thing that can help her is proper nutrition. She needs quality food to keep going, slow down the disease, and have a chance to pull through. Without it, she will weaken even faster.
For her, the right kibble is not a luxury—it’s vital."
"Every week, dogs are abandoned in the Kraljevo region—by their owners, but also by pounds from other towns that dump them here without any remorse. Thrown away like unwanted objects... We are just a handful of volunteers trying to help them. I personally take care of about 35 dogs on my own, but there are hundreds on the streets…
Every day, I receive messages about injured dogs, dogs in danger, or abandoned overnight. I do my best to at least give them something to eat—but it’s never enough. Right now, I have only four bags of kibble left, no more. I ration as best I can, giving them a few handfuls of kibble, some bread… but it’s not enough. Especially in winter, when they need even more strength to survive.
I have a knot in my stomach. Not being able to help them all is a terrible burden. I’m scared for all these newly abandoned dogs—lost, weak, thrown into an unfamiliar place overnight. Many are already sick or injured. If I can’t feed them, they have almost no chance of surviving..."
"Our shelter has existed for 10 years, yet we still receive no support from the state. A few months ago, I contacted the Kraljevo administration to ask for help, at least for food, but they told me there was no budget for that. I also reached out to several companies, without success. Aside from sharing donation appeals and relying on people’s generosity, we have no other help—and it’s never enough. Many people are struggling financially, and some who supported us before can no longer do so.
In addition to the lack of kibble, we have a debt of about 3,000 euros at the veterinary clinic. Every week, at least one dog needs treatment: chemotherapy, a vaccine, parasite treatment… We manage to gather some money, but the bills keep piling up, and it’s getting more and more difficult.
Between kibble, medical care, and everything else, the pressure is immense. And since donations are decreasing, we have to make do with even less. But the hardest part is the fear—the fear of running out, especially for the sick dogs who absolutely need food to stay alive. It’s exhausting..."
"I deeply love working with dogs—helping them overcome their fear and regain trust in humans. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a once-terrified dog learn to feel safe again.
But I won’t lie, rehabilitation is difficult, especially for those who have been abused. Many arrive completely broken, paralyzed by fear. Some refuse to leave their box for weeks. Seeing an animal in such a state of terror is heartbreaking.
And yet, I love spending time with them, talking to them as if they understood everything, showing them that not all humans are the same. For me, the greatest victory is when a traumatized dog becomes sociable, happy—when they play, seek affection, and finally enjoy life. Watching them rebuild themselves is the most beautiful reward."
