"Over the past few months, we’ve taken in 54 more dogs. Fifty-four… It’s overwhelming. And always for the same heartbreaking reasons: people abandoning them right at our doorstep... The problem is, we are nowhere near having the means to feed so many dogs. As I speak to you now, we don’t have a single piece of kibble left. It’s already been ten days like this.
We’re doing what we can: asking butchers for bones, bakeries for leftover bread... But that’s not what they need. It’s neither healthy nor nourishing. And even those scraps are starting to run out. Every time we go back, they give us less and less, and now we’re forced to weigh every portion just to make it last a little longer.
Nothing left to feed them. Almost no leftovers. Honestly, I never thought we would get to this point. And as new dogs keep arriving every week, the situation is only getting worse. Our dogs need to eat! We’ve done everything we could, but we’ve reached our limit. Without kibble, we just can’t go on."
"The dogs are hungry. What we manage to give them right now is not enough — they keep circling around their empty bowls, still searching, for anything. They never act like this when they have kibble...
And now, they've even started fighting. It breaks my heart to see them tearing at crumbs, growling, throwing themselves at each other! All I want is to see them full, happy — and above all, healthy. But if things keep going like this, it'll get worse: they'll get sick, suffer from deficiencies, and these fights will only escalate, I know it... For me, it would be devastating.
I've always put my dogs first — even before my own health, before my own meals. But now, I just can't do it anymore. On my own, I can't give them what they need. There are too many of them, and the idea of letting them suffer, of seeing them fight and hurt each other over scraps, is unbearable..."
"Cura got caught up in a fight at the shelter — other dogs violently attacked her while she was just trying to eat. Her leg is badly injured... Right now, she’s unable to move. She stays curled up in the same spot, far too scared to trust anyone.
She’s on antibiotics, and we have to clean her wound several times a day. We also need to take her for an X-ray — we’re really hoping her leg isn’t broken...
To have any chance of recovering, she needs care, vitamins, and above all, proper food! Without kibble, her healing — both physical and emotional — will be impossible..."
"Our finances are at zero — there’s nothing left. Donations are almost non-existent, and our debt at the vet’s keeps growing, with no way to pay it back. We even went to the town hall to ask for help, since we’re a shelter for the community, but they refused to help us at all.
I’m exhausted. It’s getting harder and harder to find the words to keep asking for help over and over. I’m old, tired, and not good with computers. Apart from a friend abroad who helps me with some things online, I have no one to turn to...
Asking for help has become a daily struggle. Sometimes I feel like we’ve reached the end of the road. But one thing is certain: our dogs need to eat! Kibble is the top priority..."
"I’ve always been driven by a deep love for animals. Seeing them in distress, hungry, injured, abandoned — it breaks my heart. But what hurts the most is the injustice they suffer because of humans... People abandon them, abuse them, discard them like their lives mean nothing! It’s that pain, and all the love I have for them, that pushed me to start helping them, so many years ago.
Today, as I grow older and my health starts to fail a bit more every day, everything is becoming harder. I’m lucky to have two people who take turns caring for the dogs, and I’m so grateful for that. But being stuck at home, unable to take care of them the way I used to, is incredibly hard for me. It’s one of the most painful things I’ve had to endure...
And what weighs on me even more is knowing that, even now, without our shelter, so many of these dogs would die alone, abandoned on the streets, without anyone to care or even notice..."
