Animal Webaction visited the site 22 March 2025 and confirms the situation described below.
“We have 250 dogs at the shelter, and the situation is getting seriously bad: we're almost out of kibble. We've had to cut back their portions—right now, they’re surviving on stale bread with just a few crumbs of kibble. It’s not enough, and it’s definitely not balanced. Honestly, it's mostly bread...
The truth is, I have nothing left to give them. Even the bakeries and butcher shops that used to help us by donating leftovers have stopped, unless we can pay—and we just can’t afford to.
We have barely 60 kilos of kibble left. That’s nothing, compared to how many mouths we need to feed. The dogs aren’t getting enough, in quantity or in quality, and it’s starting to show. These dogs need real nutrition. That’s the top priority... simply for them to survive!”
“The dogs have been surviving on mostly stale bread for two weeks now... They’re growing more and more agitated: they’re digging frantically in their enclosures out of frustration, and fights are starting to break out. It’s awful.
Damage to the enclosures... I can deal with that. It’s frustrating, yes—but it can be fixed. Fights, however... Seeing the dogs turn on each other like that—it’s unbearable. I’m especially worried for our disabled dogs, because I know they’ll be the first targets if things get out of hand. Just thinking about it makes my stomach twist.
I’m scared. Scared the dogs will get hurt, scared this campaign will fail. And the worst part is, the dogs can feel it. They sense my fear—and it makes them even more anxious. And the cycle continues... We’re stuck in it. And without kibble, there’s no way out.”
"Donations have dried up. People here just don’t really care about animal welfare. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve heard, ‘Better to help children than dogs.’ That kind of talk—combined with zero support from the authorities—has brought us to our knees.
We already care for hundreds of dogs—and there are still dozens more out there who need our help—but we’re blocked at every turn. Without funds, there’s nothing we can do. Every day, we have to choose: delay medical care, or go further into debt. Either way, we’re sinking...
Spring is here, and we urgently need antiparasitic treatments for fleas and ticks. But what we need most—desperately—is kibble. Without kibble, we can’t do anything. We can’t care for the dogs we’ve already rescued. And we can’t take in the ones who are still waiting..."
“I’ve always had a special bond with animals. To me, they’re the only beings truly capable of unconditional love. But here... dogs are abandoned, abused, forgotten. And no one is ever held accountable. No fines. No punishment. Nothing. That says a lot about how little animal life is valued here.
It breaks my heart. When I see the fear in their eyes, the way they’re treated—it crushes me. These dogs are my whole life. I’ve given them everything. But I’m getting old. I’m sick. It’s getting harder and harder to walk. I can still get around a little, but I can’t do the physical work anymore... I just don’t have the strength I used to.
My granddaughter helps me, but she’s the only one. We have no staff, no volunteers. Just the two of us. I really hope she’ll be able to carry on when I can’t anymore... Because the truth is, these dogs—they only have us.”
