"The holidays are always such a difficult time for us. During Ramadan, the number of abandoned dogs skyrockets. And since many restaurants close, stray dogs are left with nothing to eat. I had no choice but to take several of them in. Some were in critical condition—I just couldn’t leave them out there.
Now, there are more dogs in the shelter than ever before… and I have fewer and fewer resources. Donations have completely stopped. I put out a call for help on social media two days ago—nothing. Not a single response. I don’t know what to do anymore.
For almost three weeks, I’ve been feeding them with low-quality kibble mixed with stale bread… I only have enough left for today. After that, I don’t know... The dogs are hungry. And I feel powerless, heartbroken, sick, and exhausted. Kibble isn’t a luxury—it’s an emergency. It’s life or death for our dogs.”
"You can tell immediately when the dogs are hungry. They get anxious, tense. They start fighting, especially at mealtime—it turns into chaos.
Their health deteriorates too. I can see some of them losing weight, their immune systems weakening. Without enough food, they become vulnerable to every illness. And since I can’t always afford a vet, things can spiral quickly into tragedy…
For me, it’s a nightmare. I can’t sleep, I can’t eat. I’m at the end of my rope. My biggest fear is watching them starve to death...”
"Sam is a 6-year-old female dog with distemper. The disease left her with serious aftereffects. She suffers from neurological issues—uncontrollable nervous tics, sudden movements… And worst of all, she lost the use of her legs. When I rescued her, she was completely paralyzed.
Thanks to physical therapy and a lot of patience, she regained a bit of mobility. Today, she can walk—barely, but she walks. She’s still very fragile, her balance is unstable.
Sam needs a steady, tailored diet to keep up her strength. Without it, she could easily regress. She fights every day—but she can’t fight on an empty stomach.”
“Our financial situation is catastrophic. We’ve hit rock bottom. The shelter’s funds are gone, and donations have completely dried up. I don’t understand what’s happening. The government doesn’t step in. Morocco doesn’t step in. And here I am, alone, with all these animals—without a solution.
I don’t have any sponsors or partners for the shelter. I’ve tried everything—social media posts, emails, letters, desperate calls for help. I’ve knocked on every door, but no one answers. Nothing. Just silence. And the same fear keeps coming back: not being able to pay rent, or staff… but most of all, not being able to feed my animals. It’s a nightmare on repeat.
Lack of money isn’t just a number—it means canceled treatments, postponed surgeries, abandoned rescues… We’re stuck. Barely surviving, doing the absolute minimum. But this isn’t what we promised these dogs…”
"I know that without my actions, many of these dogs would already be dead. The ones I’ve taken in escaped mass culling. The ones I’ve sterilized, tagged, neutered—they’re visible, they’re identified. So generally, the authorities leave them alone. And this work also protects people: these dogs are vaccinated against rabies. Without all of this, there would be more disease, more strays, more fear, more tragedy in the streets.
What keeps me going are my animals. And hope. The hope that one day, things will change.
But I can’t bear to see animals suffer anymore. I feel it in my body. It eats away at me, and it’s taking a serious toll on my health. I can’t give like I used to. My body just can’t keep up. I have back problems, heart issues… I can’t exert myself anymore. I can’t even work physically at the shelter.
I hope society wakes up. That we’ll finally get real support. We need help—financial, human, emotional..."
