Animal Webaction visited the site 13 April 2025 and confirms the situation described below.
"This is the worst situation my shelter has ever faced, no exaggeration. Donations have completely stopped. For the past two months, I’ve had to halve the kibble portions. Some of the dogs have lost so much weight, they're barely recognizable, they’.. Hunger makes them restless, anxious, sometimes aggressive. Fights are becoming more frequent. Their skin issues are getting worse. Everything is falling apart.
I’m at my breaking point. Even the suppliers who used to let me buy on credit have now shut their doors. I have no sponsor, no partner, no steady support. I’m carrying all of this alone, and I’m crumbling—mentally, physically, emotionally…
Please don’t wait. Your support could truly be the difference between life and death for these dogs. Take a moment to really see them—not just as dogs, but as lives that depend entirely on us. Their future doesn’t rest only on me; it depends on every person who chooses to care.”
"My dogs are suffering. They’re hungry, they’re fighting, they’re losing weight, they’re getting sick. Right now, kibble is the number one priority—and time is running out.
These dogs mean the world to me. I’ve been fighting for them for years, giving them everything I can. But sometimes, the situation becomes bigger than you. I’m exhausted. The stress is constant, and it hurts more than I can express.
I can’t keep going like this. And neither can my dogs. Without kibble, I think I’ll have no choice but to release them. Some might survive… others risk abuse, or worse—being killed by the authorities. I need a helping hand to keep that from happening. They don’t deserve this, and I personally won't be able to handle it if it comes down to it...”
“I found Elza near the shelter last month, covered in sores and suffering from severe itching. She’s made some progress since arriving, but she’s still far from stable.
Her condition requires specific treatment—expensive treatment, far beyond what I can afford right now. I can’t give her the doses she really needs, and with the ongoing kibble shortage, her recovery has hit a wall...
Honestly, with how little I have, I knew I couldn’t give her the best care. But she was in such a terrible state… I couldn’t look the other way and just leave her there.
That’s the reality I’m living now: do I turn them away because I can’t afford it anymore? Or do I keep going, even though I can barely stand? One thing’s certain: without enough kibble and without treatment, Elza will get worse.”
“Donations have completely dried up. It started gradually, but around Ramadan things really worsened. During that time, priorities shift, people focus on their own needs, on preparations… and donations often come to a stop.
I think there’s also a false belief going around: some people think I already get support from multiple associations. But that’s not true. Very few actually get involved. Outside of the Animal Webaction campaigns, I have no regular support. And even the gap between two campaigns is incredibly hard for me to manage…
I’m in debt on all fronts: kibble, medicine, vet care. I couldn’t even afford to keep my former employee, I had to let them go. Even my suppliers have stopped giving me credit. I can no longer meet the dogs’ basic needs—not even kibble.
I’m completely stuck. And yet everything depends on me: the kibble, the care, the day-to-day needs. Without help, the entire shelter will collapse. And I’ll collapse with it.”
“Watching animals suffer every day… it wears you down. Bit by bit, it drains you. I started this shelter because here in Tetouan, there was nothing for them. No safe space. I also wanted to change how people see them: despite what some still believe, dogs are not dirty or dangerous. They’re just innocent, vulnerable beings. And those who don’t like them could at least choose to ignore them… rather than hurt them.
I do everything alone—with no resources, no support, and barely any strength left. I give this shelter everything—my time, my energy, my health… sometimes even at the expense of my personal life. I keep going, but I won’t pretend: right now, we need help. The shelter needs it. The dogs need it. And honestly… so do I.
Kibble, vet care, medicine, even someone to cover a worker’s salary—every bit counts. Even a single euro can make a difference. Drop by drop, you can fill a river. If everyone gave a little, these dogs could finally have the life they deserve.
So if you can do something, please—help us.”
