Animal Webaction visited the site 05 August 2019 and confirms the situation described below.
In Romania, 300 dogs in this shelter are without kibbles, they will starve to death!
See the post on Facebook.
In distress, Ildiko asked us to come to the shelter, we were there on August 5.
Since our visit, Ildiko has not been able to buy any kibble, the dogs only live on bread and leftovers.
Troubles keep coming for Ildiko: a destroyed shelter, a broken car....
Already ruined by the veterinary care of the last few months, she can no longer cope, and begs us to help her.
We would like to send 3000 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.
Following Ildiko's SOS, we went to the shelter on August 5. On the spot, we only found 100 kg of kibble, not even enough to feed the dogs for 1 day....
Last March, the Animal Webaction community got together to help Ildiko's shelter by sending 4800 kg of kibble. This food has been finished since May, Ildiko has done her best to manage since then, but she can't do it anymore!
She begs us to help her again.
Almost 50 new dogs have been rescued by Ildiko since April, 80% of them having required surgery or medical treatment upon arrival. A situation that Ildiko cannot face.
"The long term treatments are expensive, plus the surgeries that were needed in the last few months, I'm having trouble paying the medical bills and making sure the food supply is constant. When there is a medical emergency, the money for the vet comes from the food budget..." she explains.
"My biggest fear is running out of food for the dogs, due to the lack of funds, especially considering the fact that the cold season is coming within a month. I fear that my contributions will not be enough to ensure the medical treatments for the ill. Lastly I fear that due to the current conditions of the shelter, I will not be able to save dogs that are in extreme conditions and would need my help."
Since our visit, Ildiko has not been able to purchase kibble, her only option is to collect the leftovers that bakeries and restaurants would be willing to give her to prevent the dogs from starving.
But the only functional car of the shelter was hit and considerably damaged by another vehicle on the evening of August 8: Ildiko can't get any food without a car! "Unfortunately, the person who caused the accident does not have insurance, I have to sue him if I want the repair costs to be covered," Ildiko told us, knowing she cannot afford to finance the repairs herself.
On Monday, August 12, she managed to borrow a vehicle, but will have to give it back the same evening, the situation is hanging by a thread!
We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before August 16.
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
Built with the means at hand, without any concrete or permanent roof, Ildiko's shelter is vulnerable the bad weather... and was heavily damaged by a severe storm late in June: "This storm was terrible for us" she told us at the time.
All the makeshift roof tarpaulins were washed away and the pens were flooded, leaving a pool of mud when the water receded. Ildiko must absolutely complete the necessary work before winter returns, but it is overwhelmed, both financially and morally!
Working part-time, Ildiko already devotes all her salary to the shelter, which has not been enough for a while now.... Her husband therefore uses part of his salary also to take care of the dogs, both of them live on what little they have left after that. "If I didn't have a job, these dogs would have starved to death a long time ago," says Ildiko.
But between the shelter devastated by the storm, the heavy medical care needed in recent months, and the ever-increasing number of dogs, Ildiko and her husband's finances are no longer enough to cover the shelter's costs.
This collection is Ildiko's last hope, as she no longer knows how to get out of it: "I have trouble finding help from other associations. Most of them are shelters trying to survive. Opportunities to find this kind of help are uncertain and almost unlikely to happen."
In addition to her work, Ildiko is doing a lot of things to get help and food for her dogs. Donation boxes at several retailers, sale of jams or objects she made herself, calls for help and search for partnerships....
Unfortunately, this takes a lot of time and only brings in few donations to the shelter. Ildiko also fails to establish new partnerships, and the association RespekTIERE, which helps herfrom Germany, is also overwhelmed. She also asks us to help Ildiko!
Ildiko created the shelter in 2014, but was already saving animals before that, which requires a lot of sacrifice. "It cost me my marriage," she says about her first husband, who once asked her to choose between him and the dogs.
A part-time hairdresser, she runs every day between her job, the shelter, the vet and the search for food. She invests all her time and money in the protection of dogs.
"Please open your hearts and your time and help the strays, help our shelter. Animals need our help to survive, especially those in shelters that have been abandoned and forgotten. They are innocent souls that deserve a chance to live. If only a quarter of the people on Earth were as good and kind as these dogs are, the world would be a better place.”
If the collection succeeds, the food will leave directly from our logistics centre in Romania! So we can act very quickly, let's help Ildiko and her 300 dogs to get kibble!
This collection is organized by the Animal Schields Oradea association, of which Ildiko is the president. The 3000 kg of kibble collected will be delivered to Ildiko to feed the 300 dogs in the shelter.
