Animal Webaction visited the site 12 September 2019 and confirms the situation described below.
In Romania, Anca has no more kibbles to feed the abandoned dogs who live on the streets.
Anca can no longer feed all of the street dogs, there are too many of them!
Abandoned in remote places, they cannot find food by themselves, they are hungry.
On September 12, we joined Anca to meet them.
The stock of kibble she had left then is now exhausted, she has only managed to buy a few bags.
The French association that supports her is at a limit, she asks us to intervene.
We would like to send 2400 kg as an emergency.
For the past four years, Anca has been taking care of street dogs and going to them every morning to bring them food and water. But their numbers continue to grow, and it has simply become impossible for her to feed them all. "The number of dogs on the streets is constantly increasing due to abandonment. Just recently, a van came and left 25 dogs in the woods," Anca explained.
Worse still, most street dogs are abandoned in isolated places far from the city and civilization, where they have no chance of being able to manage on their own...
Every morning, before going to work, Anca travels 30 km in search of dogs used to her visits, who depend on her for food.
Sheltered in the woods, along national roads, under bridges or in parking lots, they are far from any source of food or even drinking water. Without Anca, they could not survive on their own... But the quantities she is able to provide them are already kept to a minimum, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain them!
"I strive to improve the life of abandonned dogs. I've been feeding them for four years. I feed about 40 dogs every day. And I consume a bag of 10kg a day with great savings. It's not always enough, but these are the possibilities I have"
In addition to abandoned dogs, Anca also helps a pack of shepherd dogs several times a week. Used to control cow herds, these dogs have only a useful function, and replacing them is easy.
They therefore receive no medical care, and are only fed with whey when some remains.... Anca therefore provides them with kibbles, and has also provided medical care for many of them, suffering from skin diseases.
Every month, Anca invests a minimum of 100€ for the good of the dogs "Taking in consideration her small salary, it is quite a lot." says our agent Julius. Unfortunately, this amount is far from enough to cover the dogs' needs: it is very insufficient to feed them all, and even more so to treat them...
Anca still manages to help so many street dogs because she has the help of a small group of individuals based in England, and the French association Woolly Woofters. But their means are modest, the quantities they manage to collect are insufficient and always a little more difficult to find...
"It gets harder every month to provide for the dogs. New abandoned dogs appear all the time. The medical treatment costs are very high and it gets harder to provide food" says Anca, who fears not being able to meet their needs.
We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before October 2nd.
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
Because life on the streets is difficult, diseases and injuries are common, and medical care is frequently required. "The general health condition of the dogs is good due to the care Anca provides. She treats ill dogs and takes them to the vet" Julius explains.
But the costs of medical care are very high, and are a heavy burden on Anca's budget and her few supporters. Scabies, parvovirus or heartworms are only some of the last diseases that had to be treated, and the needs increase with the number of dogs.
Every morning, Anca wakes up two hours earlier than necessary, to have time to meet all the street dogs she feeds before having to go to work. She travels more than 40 km alone, and repeatedly leaves food and water for her protégés.
By going there at dawn, she also tries to avoid police patrols, which have already issued several fines... because feeding street dogs is considered an infraction there: "They often follow me. If I see them, I have no other solution than to leave and come back later," Anca explains.
Anca not only feeds and cares for street dogs, she also actively participates in regulating their population, by getting involved in spaying and neutering campaigns.
The week before our visit, she had allowed 11 dogs to be spayed and neutered: "Anca helps them in that area because she knows the dogs and knows where they are hiding. Even though they struggle to catch the dogs for treatment because they are sometimes very wild and do not like human encounter." sums up Julius.
In an area without any public spaying/neutering program, where public pounds are overcrowded and shelters scarce, Anca plays a major role, we must support her!
From France, Linda Renton manages the Woolly Woofters association, to help animals in need around the world "We give of our time, we raise funds to pay for transport, food, treatments, spay" sums up Linda. Most of the funds collected come from the sale of creations made by the members of the association: knitted objects, paintings, and even plants of all kinds.
But the association generates little money, and supports several rescuers, particularly in Macedonia Bosnia and Romania: the support provided to Anca is already very difficult for them, it is impossible for them to do more...
If Anca is so involved with street dogs, it is actually a bit of a coincidence: "Four years ago, I was driving on the road that goes under the bridge, near the canal, where many dogs hide. I came across Rambo, Fifi and several others, and wondered who was feeding them. Of course, no one did. The love of dogs and the compassion I felt pushed me to feed them."
Since then, she has given herself body and soul for them, but is haunted by the idea of not being able to provide for them. "Please take care of your dogs. Sterilize them and don't abandon them. Above all, if you meet stray dogs, be kind to them, they are souls too"
If the collection succeeds, the food will leave directly from our logistics centre in Romania! So we can act very quickly, help Anca and the street dogs to get kibble!
This collection is organized by the French association Woolly Woofters, for the benefit of street dogs fed by Anca. The 2400 kg of kibble collected will be delivered to Anca to feed the street dogs.
- Animal Webaction has been helping more than 833 animal welfare associations over the past 5 years, with more than 1,967 deliveries in 8 countries (see photos).
- We make sure to contact each partner association, inquire to ensure its reliability and always ask for supporting documents.
- Our partner associations only receive physical products, which means we never send money. When you offer 10kg of food, we deliver 10kg of food to the association.
- We also deal with transportation ourselves, and make sure all the products collected are properly brought where the association needs them to be, so a quick delivery is guaranteed.
- We will notify you by email as soon as the product bought thanks to your donation has been delivered.
- We will ask the association to take pictures of the food received, and will send you these pictures.
