Animal Webaction visited the site 19 October 2019 and confirms the situation described below.
In Romania, this shelter has no more kibbles for its 211 dogs, they will starve to death!
While diseases are raging at the shelter, kibbles are almost used up.
With 211 dogs, the shelter is overloaded, Georgiana is desperate.
Her calls for help are not working, and she can no longer buy kibble.
The few associations that support her are also overwhelmed.
We would like to send 3000 kg of kibble as a matter of urgency.
For several weeks now, the shelter has been beset by diseases.... An outbreak of parvovirus first broke out, brought by puppies rescued by Georgiana: despite careful disinfection, dozens of puppies were contaminated, many died.
Several dogs also contracted kennel cough, which progressed to pneumonia in those whose immune system was already weakened...
We must at all costs ensure that all dogs can eat enough to fight against diseases.
On October 19, our agent Alexandru went to the Georgiana's shelter following her calls for help. On the spot, he met the 211 dogs sheltered and cared for by Georgiana. At that time, 200 kg of kibble remained, but 80 kg are needed every day for them to eat their fill.
Since our visit, all the bags have been used, Georgiana has been forced to buy back on credit, but the kibbles will be over again from October 29th, she does not know how to keep going...
Georgiana has been trying for several weeks to make ends meet, and is trying by all possible means to make the difficulties faced by the shelter understood, in the hope of getting more support.
Despite her efforts, she still sees no positive perspectives on the horizon, and wonders how to continue her fight for abandoned dogs.
"Every month, I have to fight, not sleep to try to get food and pay rent and employees...not to mention debts... It's too much for one person, and I've been doing it for so long..." she says, fearing that she won't be able to do it anymore.
We can take action, we have already booked a truck and pallets, but we have to pay it before 29 October.
If the collection fails, we will not be able to pay, the departure of the truck will be cancelled and none of the collected kibbles will be delivered...
If the collection fails, we will refund all donors.
Over the past 3 months, Georgiana has rescued 55 animals, and allowed the adoption of 40 others... an unceasing ballet, made of urgent veterinary care to allow rescues, others dedicated to preparations for adoption, and those intended to treat the residents of the shelter, especially those aging or suffering from chronic diseases.
"It is very difficult to fundraise for food as in the same time i have to fundraise for the sick dogs. Is a huge stress always thinking how will i do it next month considering the so many expensive have in the moment .Is really hard as i never managed to have enough funds for all food needed"
So far, Georgiana has managed to get by by buying low quality kibbles, but even this option is a real challenge that she can't meet anymore.
Georgiana is very active and collaborates with many small associations abroad, both to promote her dogs for adoption, to maximize rescues, and to make the voice of animal advocates heard.
Unfortunately, the only association that was able to help Georgiana with the purchase of food, West Yorkshire Animal in Need, no longer has the resources to meet the shelter's current needs: "WYAIN can't help as much as we used to or as much as we would like", says Tommi Townsend, President of the association.
For now, only the German association Hunde in Not Pfarrkirchen e. V. helps Georgiana with the purchase of puppy food, which she cannot afford to buy herself, but it is impossible for them to do more.
Georgiana has been rescuing all dogs, whatever their condition, whatever the medical costs involved, or the difficulty of their recovery, for several years. Without her, these dogs would have had no other chance.
Thanks to all her efforts to develop new partnerships, Georgiana also has a very high adoption rate, including for disabled dogs: that is why we must help her to continue!
Her shelter in Fagaras only dates back to 2017, but her commitment to animal protection dates back to many more years. Georgiana's love for the dogs in her shelter is visible to the naked eye, and emanates from each of the interactions we observed during our visit.
However, the sacrifices are many, and the daily life very difficult for her at the shelter: "I feel exhausted and overwhelmed, every day there is a new emergency. I've had many small puppies thrown away at garbage which had to be fed by hand, many nights without sleep.. Every night and every morning I
ask God and the Universe to give me strenght to continue this mission. My biggest fear is to get sick as without me nothing could go on. From 211 dogs maybe just 10 are sponsored and all the others depend on me."
If the collection succeeds, the food will leave directly from our logistics centre in Romania! So we can act very quickly, let's help Georgiana and her 211 dogs to get kibble!
This collection is organized by the Saving Orphaned Souls association. The 3000 kg of kibble collected will be delivered to Georgiana to feed the 211 dogs hosted at the shelter.
- Animal Webaction has been helping more than 833 animal welfare associations over the past 5 years, with more than 1,967 deliveries in 8 countries (see photos).
- We make sure to contact each partner association, inquire to ensure its reliability and always ask for supporting documents.
- Our partner associations only receive physical products, which means we never send money. When you offer 10kg of food, we deliver 10kg of food to the association.
- We also deal with transportation ourselves, and make sure all the products collected are properly brought where the association needs them to be, so a quick delivery is guaranteed.
- We will notify you by email as soon as the product bought thanks to your donation has been delivered.
- We will ask the association to take pictures of the food received, and will send you these pictures.
- The payment of donations is 100% secured by Paypal (no obligation to have a Paypal account), and by credit card.
- If you change your mind, we will refund your donation upon request, without charge or proof of any kind.
- If unfortunately the collection fails, we will not deliver anything, we will refund you the full amount of your donation.
