"We were already down to almost nothing before lockdown. We've been wondering for weeks how we're going to handle for food, we handle things week after week, waiting for donations, and we're getting by as best we can.
The concern is for the animals, we have some that arrived just before lockdown. And what scares me right now is the abandonment of other dogs, we're going to get a lot of calls. Plus the lack of resources..."
"We're the association for the dogs the other associations don't want. Complicated dogs, we're their last resort. We have a lot of them, who are either aggressive or have behavioral problems, inseparable dogs, other sick dogs. We know that if we don't do something for them, these dogs have no solution.
If we cannot provide for those we already have, we will be forced to stop taking abandoned dogs, to refuse new entry. We are forced to stop rescuing and to take care of those we have. We can't just hoard the animals and not be able to feed and care for them, it makes no sense."
"Our Candy is officially a Sanctuary Resident at l'Auberge des quatre pattes. Her health condition is such that it does not seem reasonable to put her up for adoption. She has an inoperable lung tumor. Her breathing is often laboured but she is closely monitored and receives the necessary care.
She doesn't let herself be discouraged and joyfully enjoys the place, her co-tenants, and especially the human presence that she particularly likes. This decision to keep Candy at the shelter until the end of her life is a considerable burden for us, especially since we don't know what the future veterinary expenses will be."
"We used to have car boot sales, we used to have dinner concerts and of that, at least until October, we'll have to live withou. And we know we can't collect food in the shops either, everything is cancelled.
For now, we're waiting to see how it evolves, lockdown just ended, we're waiting for the volunteers to come back, things are still as they were during lockdown. We've done a few adoptions, so we're trying to clear our debts. The veterinarian has agreed to grant us a month's delay in payment. We'll see how it goes, hopefully we'll get more adoptions than abandonments."
"I started in 2008, at first as a boarding house, but eventually by dint of helping, the boarding house turned into a shelter, because what I was made for was helping animals in difficulty. And Pascal joined me," explains Lola.
"At the shelter, we offer these animals a place where they are safe but also the time they need to recover from their traumas, whether physical or emotional. We work with those who need to regain their confidence, giving them the time they need to be ready for adoption. And some will stay with us forever. We've had a lot of success, working with them over and over again. We don't really have a personal life anymore."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in France, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
" This is something really missing, we would have to fill out grant applications, make ourselves known, look for partnerships, we don't have any help even from our village. Our events such as garage sales or dinner-concerts, which used to bring us most of the budget during the year, now we have to live without.
As it is, if we weren't supported by English rescuers, we would already be dead. We've got to try to do things differently, but unfortunately we don't have the time."
