"So far, we haven't had any food shortage because we anticipated the lockdown when it was announced. But we've used up all the kibble we had been able to get. And the city is flooded with dogs, we've been feeding everywhere.
We don't know how long we'll be able to continue. We've got too many expenses, and no solution. With the lockdown everything's been frozen, we have no more adoptions, we're living from day to day. We can't go on like this forever, we're gonna be stuck with a knife to our throat and we'll have nothing left."
"This shelter is difficult, it's far from everything and there are so many dogs. Large packs of dogs are difficult to manage, and this shelter does not allow us to make big changes. It's very hot, and by cutting the packs, you also cut off the shady areas.
We have a central pack with at least 150 dogs. And we don't have the money to invest in construction, even if we were not renting the place. We've used up all the potential of this land, we can't do any better than this."
"Hope's a dog of small size, and besides, she's also very fearful. She is one of those dogs that are bound to be more fragile than others in these circumstances..."
" Usually, we don't feed them. But there's been an increase in street dogs, who don't have anything to eat. The territory is flooded with dogs.
We have to feed them so that they don't fight and get killed by the population. Dogs looking for food in the streets, you see them, you notice them much more.
Stray dogs are a public health issue. Beyond the pandemic, situations are moving forward, the ministry is putting a lot of pressure to move to the TNRV (NDRL: sterilization program), which was unimaginable a few years ago. We must hold on for them, I want to get Morocco to move to TNRV."
"We've got so many expenses, and even more with the lockdown. We have a lot of dogs that need treatment, sometimes surgery, it costs a lot of money, and we can't just leave them like that...
Adoptions are completely stuck, we need permissions to move around the territory, we don't have running water... I'm like a fireman. I go from one problem to another. It's what I do every day. The employees haven't been out for more than two months, you have to have the nerves to do it. I often get angry, but I admire them a lot.
Emotionally, it gets to me a lot, I am contacted all day long and I can't help all the dogs, it's a huge, huge stress. I don't see the end of the tunnel. They are not just animals, they are lives, living beings who are suffering."
"Dogs are my people. I'm passionate, determined, for dogs I'm capable of anything. Of course, you have to know how to sacrifice yourself, I have animals everywhere, we don't sleep much. There are so many dogs, I would like to take them all in my house. I suffer emotionally, it's hard to accept not being able to take them all.
But I'm also drained, I'm often tired. I'm 65 years old, I may have energy because I'm haunted by the love of my dogs, but I worry a lot. I wonder how much longer I'm going to weather the storm. The main worry is how to keep up with all these dogs. But I'm a pit bull and I'll never let go."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.
"I'm a workaholic, but you have to make yourself known, and it's not easy. Donations have also dropped because people are worried, many don't work, even in Europe.
But here, the expenses continue, I'm worried about money and dogs. I have a moral responsibility towards these dogs, now it's impossible to release them."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the organizer receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.

Because of the current health crisis, Morocco has been placed in lockdown since March 20th. As movements have been drastically reduced and controlled, it was impossible for us to visit the shelter to organize this campaign.
However, Animal Webaction has visited Michele's shelter many times over the last two years, our last visit was only a few months ago. We are in close contact with her (she allowed us to prepare this campaign), and we have full confidence in her.
