Animal Webaction visited the site 01 June 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"With the coronavirus, the situation has become dramatic not only for humans but also for animals.
It is a continuous struggle every day with various problems. Food, vet, cleaning and more. I know we are all in a difficult situation but I have to ensure the minimum necessary for dogs.
For all the dogs, I need an average of 50kg kibble per day. Right now I only have food left for 4 days... it is a really bad time, I need help!"
"Dea was in critical condition when it was reported. She had an infection in her uterus, I had to operate on her urgently because she was literally dying.
“On the streets of Romania there are many dogs. For this reason I only save the ones in difficult situations who really need help. Puppies, sick dogs, injured dogs, old dogs…
If I’m not able to find food, then I won’t be able to save other dogs. This is not even an option, because I am the only one that provides food for these dogs.”
"When we found Teddy, he had a wound full of puss on his neck, probably because he was chained all the time, or so we think. He also had otitis and has received treatment for that.
His skin was in terrible condition, we're not entirely sure why. The vet said it was probably due to bad nutrition, external parasites, fleas and ticks. It's probably a combination of all.
His hair was so messy and tangled, we had to cut all his fur so it could heal. He's recovering now, but his skin is still in poor condition."
"Usually, stray dogs hang around institutions where they know they have a chance to be fed. But with lockdown and due to the fact that everything was closed, the dogs were left without food or water. So me and other volunteers had to feed much more than usual, the dogs were helpless.
I would love to save them all, but what quality of life could I provide them?? Without food these dogs will starve..”
“My dogs mean everything to me, I have made enormous financial and physical sacrifices for them and it's really difficult. Sometimes I wish I had their innocence....
During this period I had big problems with the adoptions, which were completely blocked until recently. The transports were closed, people were not that available, dog food became more expensive.
I have around 1300 euros in debt at the vet...The debt never goes away, if one gets paid another one reappears straight away. Everybody asks me to save, help dogs, but there are only a few that make donations. I need your help.”
"I don't have a team that works for me and my dogs. I do everything myself, starting with cleaning, feeding the animals, transporting them to the vet, caring for the sick and the elderly, etc. Then shelter maintenance, repairs, mowing the lawn... All this takes 10 hours a day, sometimes more.
The lockdown has forced many people to stay home, and to be honest I could have used some rest too. But I can't stay home because so many souls wait for me everyday, their lives are in my hands."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
“Many people no longer have jobs. they fear for the future, for their family, they don’t know how much longer they will have to face this crisis so they kept their surplus resources for emergency matters.”
