1. In Romania, Georgiana will soon run out of kibble to feed the 250 dogs at her shelter. If no one does anything, they might starve!
"Usually, we have around 200 dogs. Right now, we have 250 due to the pandemic situation of the last months. I’m receiving calls from all over Romania to pick up dogs.
People find dogs with health issues and they reach out to us for help. We've also taken in a lot of street dogs, many of which have been abandoned recently ... We have so many dogs right now, and adoptions were completely blocked during lockdown.
We do our best. But we can’t help them all. There are too many and we have limited resources. Our dogs eat 11 bags of kibble daily. Our stock is running low very fast and our dogs have to eat every day. There are no weekends or holidays, they need food daily!"
2 - Ill, injured and vulnerable dogs can only count on Georgiana, but without kibble, she’ll have to stop rescuing them, they’ll die on the street.
"This lockdown has caused many issues and a lot of stress...Apart from the arrival of many new dogs, the other big issue we face is that donations went down drastically. Everybody’s afraid, people lost their job … helping dogs in needs is not a priority for most in this situation.
But the dogs still need to eat, they still need to see a vet...We have emergencies all the time. Rocky, pictured here, was hit by a car a few days ago, he is still in the hospital, we don't know if he will make it or not...
All my dogs are vulnerable, Rocky is just one example, but we rescue many sick dogs, dogs hit by a car or a truck… I need to find a new stock of kibble, there is no way my dogs can go on without food!"
3. These puppies, like many others, were recently rescued from the streets by Georgiana. They won’t survive without kibble.
All the puppies you see were taken from the street...Sometimes they are still with their mother, but sometimes they’ve been abandoned by the owner who didn’t want puppies but for some reason didn’t sterilize his dog.
That's another issue we had with the coronavirus. As everything stopped, so did our free sterilizing campaign. In the last months, hundreds of dogs didn’t get spayed or neutered. This is a time bomb. Soon we will see even more puppies on the streets...
Some get rehomed, but for the vast majority, we are their home. This is where they play, where they sleep, where they receive love…and just like the others, they need to be fed!!"
4. For many years, Georgiana has been devoting herself body and soul to abandoned dogs, but the pandemic has unsettled everything, she can no longer afford to buy kibble!
"We are always short of resources and we don’t get any support from the local administration. There are 4 employees working here with me, I have to pay the salaries, the rent, the food, the vet …
We have huge medical bills as we save many traffic victims, or dogs with health problems. When you are in charge of a dog shelter, it is a 24/7 commitment. People call me at midnight because they found a dog hurt on the road.
Even if i am overwhelmed with sick dogs and hardly fundraising for their medical costs I simply cannot say NO when I see a dog suffering..."
5. Georgiana isn't asking for money, only kibble to feed her dogs!
"I’ve always been an animal lover. As a kid, I was bringing home dogs, cats, birds… And I was trying to find them a new home, insisting for my friends to adopt some of the dogs I had saved. Just like now actually!
So when I see all these people abandoning their pets... It makes me sad. Some people don’t realize the kind of commitment having a dog means. They get overwhelmed, and they throw them away. What can I say?!
Here, dog owners also don't sterilize their dogs. This means thousands of puppies born illegally every year. Only a few of them find a home, the vast majority ends up in the street. The lucky ones make it to a shelter…"
