Animal Webaction visited the site 08 July 2020 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Spain, Lara will soon run out of kibble: the 70 dogs under her care will have nothing to eat!

"Ever since the beginning of the quarantine, we have been struggling with many things. We took in a lot of new dogs, there are 70 at the shelter right now. Most of the dogs we've rescued are injured or sick and they need expensive veterinarian care.

The adoptions have stopped, and the same happened to the fundraising events we used to do to pay our vet bills, they were all cancelled. We don’t have enough money to carry on with all the vet bills we have...

As a direct consequence, we are even struggling to buy food for all our dogs, this is a great problem for us! I love these dogs, they are my life. I need to find a solution to feed them!"

2. If she doesn't find kibble soon, Lara will have to stop rescuing new dogs...

###

"The hunting dog situation doesn't change in Spain... Greyhounds are used to hunt, they're mistreated and abandoned if they're no longer deemed useful. We rescue a lot of them, no matter the time of year, it doesn't stop, the volume just keeps on increasing.

I would like to help every dog, but I can’t...In order to rescue more dogs, I need money... not just for food, but for all the cares they need. If we don’t feed abandoned dogs we lose their routine and it's much more difficult to carry out successful rescues.

During containment, there were no volunteers to help me, it was a disaster for me. It's a lot of work for just one person. I try not to leave any of the dogs without attention, but without help or money it is very difficult. My dogs have already been through so much... they don't deserve to know hunger!"

3. Rescued from abusive owners a year ago, Mapi's overall state of health is deteriorating. Without kibble, he won't survive !

###

"Mapi has been with us for a year. I found him living in the hole of a swimming pool, his owners kept him there all the time, without any possibility to go out. They used to give him water and food using a pulley...

Lately, we noticed he started getting very tired, had pain in his hind legs and neck. The vet did many tests, he saw something on his vertebrae, we'll have to do a biopsy soon. For now, we don't know what the problem is exactly.

Mapi keeps smiling despite the pain and the trauma he's been through, but he is definitely vulnerable and deserves a loving home! Right now, the best I can do is stay by his side, and try to ease the pain. If I don't find kibble soon, all these efforts will be for nothing..."

4. Spain's very strict containment has been a disaster for Lara, with many rescues and last minute issues at the shelter, her budget is exhausted. She can no longer buy kibble!

###

"The Covid has brought a lot of problems for us, we've rescued many "Covid patient dogs", in fact. We've had several greyhounds with serious illnesses, many puppies with Parvo.... We've had, and still have, many shortcomings.

The vet debt increases everyday; the hot water bomb has broken; we don't have heating. The installations for the dogs are bad, we need new ones. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough money to carry on, and we are afraid!

I have given up all I have for my dogs, my job, my family. No weekends, no free days, I dedicate all my time to take care of the dogs, trying to save lives, and find them the best homes. I will continue to do everything that I can in order to help these dogs, but I can’t carry on with no resources ..."

5. Lara isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.

###

"I feel so much pain when I see the state of these dogs when I rescue them. What a punishment being a greyhound in this country, what a miserable life they have got to live... I will never understand, I will never understand how these dogs can be in such pitiful states... It pains me so much, it keeps me awake.

My wish is for this sport to end, hunting with greyhounds is a true punishment for innocent beings. They are born to be used and exploited for what they call a sport, a sport stained with blood and pain. Such cruelty and abandonment need to stop!"

6. If this campaign is successful, Lara will not receive any money but 3120 kg of kibble will be delivered to them from the Animal Webaction logistic platform in Spain.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Spain, which allows it to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.

7. Lara can count on the support of a few faithful supporters, but they have already done their maximum!

"There is a very important thing in life and it's knowing what your mission is. My mission is to live without luxuries or comfort, to make these dogs happy. Saving lives is the most beautiful experience, I wouldn't change a single minute of it.

That being said, the harsh reality is, I cannot carry on alone, without resources.  The pandemic has strongly affected the Spanish economy, a lot of people have lost their job. Everybody's struggling, but to be able to continue our actions, we need donations!"
