Animal Webaction visited the site 07 August 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
Animal Webaction cannot be held responsible for dog deaths due to the absence of kibble.
"There are currently 102 dogs at the shelter. The COVID crisis has caused a huge drop in donations and because of that, we have a lack of food supply.
Usually, we get our fundings mostly through Facebook donations. But given the situation, I've contacted other organisations but they did not send any reply. Which means we don't have subsidies or help from anyone regarding the donations.
We spend an average of 40-45 kilos of food daily. At this stage we have around 6 days' worth of food, we need to find a solution urgently. We must find a way to get some food and try to find a sponsor or donator because the dogs at the shelter will literally starve otherwise.... We need to prevent that from happening at all costs."
"The coronavirus pandemic is the main reason we can no longer cope on our own, donations have slowed down and it is really worrying. I have always felt angry, furious and sad, because dogs deserve to live a happy life. It was not their choice to live, and that shouldn't mean they need to suffer.
And the most heartbreaking thing is, when we come across a helpless dog, we want to rescue it but our current situation is limiting us and we have to leave some of them on the street because at the moment we simply don't have the means to rescue them all."
"Roki is a 13-14 year-old male. His story is a sad one, like so many other dogs living in our shelter. His owner gave him away, intending to put him to sleep. We rescued him in the last moments... He's been with us ever since, it's been 5 years now.
Roki is very old so, any lack of food will affect him way more than other dogs. We need to pay close attention to him. Roki, along with so many other dogs, is the reason we have opened this shelter. So that these dogs can have a place where they have the basics for living a normal life..."
"The lack of dog food is the main issue managing the rescue. The monthly food is a huge budget for us to feed the 102 dogs. That's without even mentioning the veterinary checks, which are very expensive as well.
Besides that, we run into many prejudices by people and it can be frustrating, because people don't understand our love towards helping animals.
We gave up on our private lives and spend most of our time here working and taking care of the dogs. Most people don't understand this commitment, they don't understand the satisfaction of seeing a dog happy and healthy... It's hard to explain that emotion, every happy dog puts a smile on our faces.
"I loved animals as a child, took care of them and had a wish to open up a shelter so that I could take care of a lot of animals. My main ambitions were my love for animals and the satisfaction of them living as nicely as possible.
The shelter started when we had an idea to take care of dogs near a restaurant. After that, in the year 2015, we rented an object in Semizovac for the shelter, paid too much for our budget and decided to move it to our current location in Jabuka.
There are currently 3 volunteers and no employees in the shelter. With so many dogs and only three of us, it is hard to stay on top of everything but we are doing the best we can to achieve it, these dogs are our lives."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"This pandemic makes things even worse, because everyone is trying to survive and most people that donated now have other worries.
We have noticed a big drop in donation and we are trying to make up for it every day. We have no sponsors or organisations supporting us financially. We need help, any help!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
