Animal Webaction visited the site 18 August 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
Animal Webaction cannot be held responsible for dog deaths due to the absence of kibble. Why ?
"We find many times dogs tied to our shelter since their owners assume that taking care of all these dogs is our duty, but they don’t bother to help or donate to our association...The huge number of dogs is definitely a problem.
Because as the number of dogs increases, so does the amount of our expenses. Currently, our biggest priority is finding a new stock of kibble. At the moment the dogs eat bread, chicken carcasses, and dead chicken if found.
In addition, the epidemic has also affected chickens, cows and other animals because humans no longer care for them. Since farms can no longer give us chickens: we need kibble!
At this stage, we're really worried. We get no support from the government, and our donations have dropped massively lately. Our only resort is to turn to you for help...Nobody else is willing to try."
"Dogs at the shelter already got weaker due to lack of food, they're more emaciated and many of them got infected by scabies, ticks and fleas, but right now we cannot afford to treat them. Our struggle to get kibble impacts on everything else.
There’s also been a significant drop in adoptions due to the virus and because not many people are willing to adopt old dogs or mongrels. Which means our numbers at the shelter don't go down, they only keep increasing. And of course, if we add any dog to the shelter, many additional expenses are required, like sterilization, vaccinations etc...
It has become very difficult to continue saving other dogs, as a direct result. Our shelter is already devoted to dogs who are sick, handicapped, and our budget is completely exhausted. If this campaign doesn't work out, we are really worried our dogs will starve."
"Bolka has been at the shelter for 3 months now. We found her in Casablanca in a horrible condition. She was probably poisoned either because she got close to somebody’s property, or because she was eating from trash and ate poison. The effect of the poison is still there. Her body keeps shaking...
Bolka is doing better than when she was first brought, but she is still kept in separation from the other dogs. The lack of food heavily impacts Bolka in the sense that she is getting skinnier, and she might not be able to survive since she is still affected by the poison."
"Due to the current coronavirus situation, we’ve received no help or donations. Many people lost their jobs, and even if these people go back to their jobs, they’ll probably have a lot of debt to pay as well so they can't donate.
We’re in debt to the vet, the pet shop, the pet pharmacy....We also have a rent debt of 3 months to pay. We’re suffering! The lack of money is a major issue. Animal Webaction is our only hope to continue. Animal Webaction is all what we have."
"We’ve been fighting for the animal cause and moving in and out to secure a safe place for them and protect them against the violent outside world since 2016.
We've experienced many obstacles since we've started this journey but despite all that, we keep going. The fact that we’re still saving dogs and caring for them reflects our true devotion to these animals.
And in Morocco, it's definitely a huge task. Street dogs suffer here. They keep looking for food, but many times eat poison as people purposely throw poisonous things on their way when they throw garbage. They're also subject to hunger, car accidents and the authorities who organize campaigns to kill all strays..."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.
"There has been a very noticeable increase in the number of abandoned dogs, as some people think that dogs may carry coronavirus and also due to the fact that many people lost their jobs and can no longer afford dog expenses.
I really beg people to stop abandoning their dogs; because everyone else gets impacted by their acts. But people don’t care, they just throw their dogs in the street...We're struggling to feed our dogs at the shelter, and without more donations, we simply don't have the means to continue rescuing others."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the organizer receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.
