Animal Webaction visited the site 26 August 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"The lack of food is the main issue we’re encountering at the shelter right now. Because of what is happening around the world, we do not receive many donations. It is harder and harder to buy food for the dogs.
We currently give them dry food combined with more bread because we’ve run short... I need to find another stock of kibble soon to avoid a really critical situation...I’ve never thought of what I would do if I can’t afford to keep the shelter, but I know I don’t want to see my dogs back on the streets again..."
"The shelter is already full, but we always find dogs on the streets that need help. That's the situation in this country. We do everything we can and work as much as possible to make this shelter a home for them, but if the lack of food persists, I am really afraid.
A prolonged lack of food means they will lose weight, their immune system will shut down and they can get severe diseases. We also have many dogs with disabilities so if they're not fed properly on the long run, they might die..."
"She was rescued recently from an open field where I believe she was disposed of due to her neurological issues.
She can’t coordinate her limbs when moving. She was scanned and has brain trauma maybe because she was hit or fell on her head, nobody can say for sure.
We will have to further see with the vet how we can help her, with treatments and so on. Any lack of food would be very detrimental to her. She needs kibble!
"At the moment, the drop in donations has made it very hard for us to pay the bills. We only just managed to pay the bills for electricity and water, and to pay the people that help us.
We're always trying our hardest to solve all these problems, but it is definitely harder to keep this going at the moment, it's a bad situation for everyone.
The pandemic is making people more anxious about the future so they prefer to save money for themselves. We need some help!"
"It all started with my grandparents, who then passed it on to my parents and then on to me and my sister. We are all animal lovers!
My parents are still helping us with the shelter. And recently, some neighbours have actually started to support us as well because they've seen all the projects that we made to build this shelter and they realize we're doing a service to the town.
Despite this glimmer of hope, it's hard to keep everything working lately. People are afraid to work with others because of the virus. But no matter what we won’t give up because we love what we do and we love these dogs as if they were our children!"
