Animal Webaction visited the site 20 September 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"There's 84 adult dogs at the shelter and 55 puppies of different ages. The dogs aren't eating enough at the moment, I have to reduce their portions, and I am giving them the poor quality kibble... That's all I can afford with the drop in donations. I have to beg for food to restaurants, businesses around the city... sometimes I get food, sometimes I don’t.
One of the restaurants in the city actually called me recently to donate some meat.I was running out of food to give my dogs so that unexpected help was really welcome.
However now I can see that some of my dogs are having some skin problems because of the poor quality food I've had to give them... Their health is deteriorating, they have to be treated. But most importantly, they need good food to prevent that from happening again..."
"Because of the lack of food and quality food, my dogs' immune defenses have weakened over time, and I now have 38 dogs that got a type of scabies that's very persistent and doesn't go away with any treatment.
Some got other skin problems like some bumps under their skin, like a liquid crust and once it is resorbed, it solidifies. The doctor does not know what it is but it is most probably the rotten meat I've had to give them..
8 dogs have also been diagnosed with parvo virus, 2 are in a very serious condition. I'm afraid that if the lack of food persists, it will be a fight to survive and it will be survival of the fittest. The weakest dogs risk being attacked by other dogs and be eaten alive..."
"Luigi is 8 months old, he's been in the shelter for the past 2 months. I found him on the streets, dragging a rope around his neck, he was all skin and bones, seemed beaten.
He is not doing good, has scabies, has bloody scars on his legs, he needs good quality food, other wise he does not stand a chance..."
"The main issue running the shelter is the lack of food. Then comes the lack of money for treatment...I fund a lot of my actions from my own money and I am in a lot of debt especially to the vets.
My personal financial status is not the best so I cannot keep paying for treatment. The small agency that used to help with that can no longer help either, so it's been very difficult.
Donations have also dropped. It's a small town here, people have no jobs hence no money. Some maybe just don’t care. I'm in a lot of debt and I need help to keep going. I cannot leave these poor dogs in bad situations..."
"I started this association in 2009 with only a few dogs at first, keeping them in the yards of friends. Eventually I started rescuing more and more dogs so I started building this shelter. I just could not leave them on the streets.
My biggest fear at the moment is the coming of the winter because I have no cages and they risk dying of the cold. There's no running water or money for a boiler and plumbing at the shelter either... I really hope we can make this possible one day.
I feel helpless at times, I reach out to whoever I can for help with different things but usually people do not volunteer, they always ask for money... And I am in no capacity to pay them."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"When I find a sick or injured dog, I cannot leave them, I just cannot leave them. Dogs are amazing creatures and they are helpless in many situations, sometimes inflicted upon by human beings, my heart aches for them.
It's important for me to get help to keep going. I can keep dedicating my time, and part of my savings but food is the constant thing I need the most so any help from anyone is greatly appreciated.
I am sure that with help, I will manage to do great things for the shelter. We must not give up on them."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
