Animal Webaction visited the site 19 September 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"With the Covid-19, the number of dogs on the streets has increased. I used to contact restaurants, ryads or caterers to collect leftover food for them, but now most of them have shut down. These dogs are there, they need to eat but can't find anything outside.
For now, they only eat every other day because I can't buy kibble anymore... And they are waiting for their meal. That way we save the food bags so that they can be fed as long as possible, but they don't eat enough at all.
We only have 6 bags of dry food left, which we mix with vegetables and bread soaked in water to make them last longer, until we find a solution, I hope with this campaign".
"He is about eight months old now, I have been feeding him from a young age with the other dogs of his pack. He is among the dogs rescued from the last slaughter that was carried out in the area a few months ago.
As you can see he is very thin, he doesn't eat enough for his age, and can't find enough to eat alone in the streets".
"I have stopped doing rescues for several months now because the association's situation is in the red, I can't cover all the costs, especially for the street dogs who are in bad shape. I only have 15 dogs at the shelter at the moment, but they are in the same boat as street dogs.
I feed them every other day, they are hungry. I'm very worried that I won't be able to feed them anymore, I hope with all my heart that this campaign will work and give us hope for the next few months".
"Rupert was found in a sewer at the medina, hairless. He was initially rescued for treatment and adoption, and he was indeed adopted, but his owner died a year later, so he came back to the shelter.
He is a fearful dog, very shy. As there is not much food, he is always the last one to eat, because the others attack him..."
"With Covid, donations have dropped, most sectors have experienced shutdowns, not to mention people who have lost their jobs. I myself have been unemployed since the arrival of Covid-19, I finance everything for myself and the dogs with my few savings from before the pandemic.
I don't have regular sponsors, only three friends who donate every month, while the kibbles are getting more and more expensive.
I have debts to the vet, debts for the shelter's rent and debts to the kibble shop, it's impossible for me to go on like this".
"I keep my association running despite the difficulties, I care about my animals because they are like children to me, not just animals.
In addition to dogs, I have cats and chickens. As you know in Morocco, animals do not have priority at the social level; it is our role to make things happen for them."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles all over the country.
"With the lockdown, we encountered a lot of problems: closing of all the merchants, even to cook some food ourselves; there was a shortage of kibble in the whole region. As a result, the prices are increasing accordingly.
This situation persists and with it the lack of donors. My personal situation no longer allows me to continue without additional help".
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers are refunded.
