Animal Webaction visited the site 24 October 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"At the start of the pandemic, many people believed that animals could be vectors of the virus and transmit it to humans, so many cats were abandoned for this reason. The number of cats is therefore increasing, there are more than 50 now, while I myself have lost my job.
I feel unable to manage this large number of stray cats on my own and without help, since I do not have stable resources and I do not have the means to feed all these cats. At the moment, I have 4 kg of kibble left. They don't eat enough, most of them have lost weight, and they are contracting more and more infections. I have even found cats that had starved to death in my neighbourhood.
I feel sadness and despair, because I can't face these difficulties alone, I feel sorry for these cats who have already lost too much weight. I hope to get out of this year with as little damage as possible... I don't want to lose my cats, I fear for them, I am afraid that they will get sicker due to lack of food, be victims of violence or starve to death".
"I found Stella on the street about 6 months ago, she could only see with one eye. I took her to the vet, who prescribed her treatment for Coryza.
But Stella's condition is getting worse and worse, she is very thin, she also has an eye infection. I'm very worried about her, she just can't lose any more weight".
"Since the beginning of the pandemic I lost my job, before I used to teach English classes, it allowed me to buy kibbles. I don't receive donations like before either... I am doing my best, I now try to sell animal accessories to support my cats.
I don't have any grants or sponsors to help me, although I look for new sponsors it just doesn't work out. I only get help from a foreign association to spay/neuter the cats, and to get kibble as well, but its resources are limited.
I managed to find a vet, about 30km from here, who agrees to give me associative prices, but I don't have a car, so I have to take a taxi... I have to manage essentially on my own, I can cope, but I won't be able to continue feeding all the cats in the neighbourhood without help, it's impossible".
"I provide street cats with food and water, and ensure they get treated if necessary. Usually in winter when it is cold or when it rains, I take some into the garage to sleep in the warmth instead of sleeping outside or in the bins in the rain and cold. I take them to the vet if they are sick. I organise events which consist of making tours in the town of Témara, Rabat and its surroundings to feed stray cats and at the same time to raise awareness.
I also take care of finding families to adopt them, take care of them and give them the love and tenderness they need. My action is necessary because cats also need love, tenderness and a family that will take care of them instead of being left on the street where they face many dangers: hunger, accidents, infections.... I hope that these poor animals will one day have a law that will lay the foundations for animal protection, in particular by prohibiting their mistreatment".
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"At this time, people are not helping out more, because they are in crisis, many have lost their jobs during this pandemic, and/or their monthly income has decreased.
Although I've been looking for organisations to help me, my actions stay vain, this kind of organisations that are interested in animals are very rare in Morocco, since people don't give much importance to this kind of animal rescue action.
The support of Straycare International is precious, but that association also helps other volunteers and does not have the resources to provide for all these animals".
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
