Animal Webaction visited the site 05 November 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"I need 40 kg of kibbles a day so that everyone can have enough to eat at the shelter. Today, I barely have 30 kg left... I am forced to save the kibbles as much as possible, so I mix just a little bit of it with bread, and carcasses when I find some, but even that is difficult. The situation is very critical, I don't get enough help.
The consequences are already there, they have lost weight, are more nervous, more fragile. I have to feed them, otherwise they will become sick or even die! I am 100% responsible for them, if I don't feed them no one else will, so it's a huge responsibility that I have.
They are my children. It's a nightmare that I live every day, sometimes I wake up in the morning with only one thing on my mind: what am I going to feed them? "
"I picked Sandy up with her two sisters on the road to the dam, they were abandoned, they were very small, I offered them for adoption but nobody adopted them.
Sandy suffers from Leishmaniasis, a very serious parasitic disease. She keeps relapsing despite her treatment... Food is crucial for this disease, medicines are not enough to control it.
At the moment Sandy is very ill, she is very thin and isolates herself most of the time. She absolutely needs food to get through it."
"For the animals living in the streets, the situation is terrible. There are animals everywhere, everything is closed, they have nothing to eat, nothing to drink, the people who used to help a little bit were Europeans, they at least looked after the street dogs a little bit, but now they are all gone.
I can't take care of any more dogs, I already have such a hard time feeding the dogs at the shelter... I feel very bad because I want to do so many things for them but I am powerless in the face of the situation. It's horrible, to the point where I don't go out anymore to avoid seeing more animal distress every day, because it affects me a lot.
At this stage I prefer to only go out at night once every two or three days to distribute bread, chicken legs when I find some, to the animals in the streets. I can't do anything more for them as it is, it's very sad".
"There has been a huge drop in donations, which is perfectly understandable as it is difficult all over the world with this pandemic, people are afraid and can no longer donate, not to mention those who have lost their jobs.
I can't do it anymore because I myself have no more money, no more work, I have a lot of debts with vets, kibble suppliers, rent... I haven't been able to pay the employees for 2 months, nor the electricity. Not to mention the other problems of running the shelter.
On top of that, a lot of dogs are left in front of my door, nobody wants to give or help anymore, it's getting very, very hard. I'm afraid I won't be able to hold out for a long time, I'm physically and mentally tired, I have nothing left financially. For 6 years I have been fighting, I have done everything almost alone but now I can't do it anymore ...
"The main difficulty is the lack of food, regardless of other problems. It is a permanent stress. I hope to save even more animals every day, to keep the shelter for as long as possible, to try to get as many animals adopted as possible, and my greatest hope is that the State will manage to find a solution.
A stray animal is a victim of aggression, abuse, accidents, cold, lack of food, tick attacks, diseases. When I put a dog in my shelter, automatically I give him a chance and also to the population, because fewer dogs in the street means less rabies problems and therefore it is important.
I would just like people to take a minute and approach a dog, pet it and play with it, and then see what a feeling of joy it will give them, it's huge. Dogs exist, we can't exterminate them, it's not possible, we might as well find a solution."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I call butchers, fish vendors, I ask for donations here and there, I check in my things what I have left to sell, I do everything I can.
I try to contact other organisations, but so far I don't get any answer. I am aware that there are a lot of associaitions in need all over the world, and the organisations can't manage to help everyone unfortunately".
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
