1. In Romania, the shelter of Remember me has only a few days of kibble left. Between fights, diseases and hunger, the 400 dogs hosted will not be able to make it through the winter if no one intervenes!
"We have around 400 hundred dogs in the shelter at the moment. The ones left on the streets are being captured and brought here as well. We take them, no matter what and we find a solution afterwards. Our motto is “Leave no dog behind”. We even take the aggressive ones, so they can at least have food and shelter.
Along with diseases, food is our biggest issue. If food is scarce, dogs start fighting, sometimes very badly. Also, they need some fat on them to get them over the winter. Otherwise, they stand no chance over the coming months. And when you have so many dogs together, some will eat more, some less unfortunately.... For now the skinnier ones are in a separate section to make sure they get their part.
The thing is, we only have food left for about a week from now. We fund the shelter from donations, either food donations or money donations and we buy the food from them. Bur now, donations are scarce, either people don’t have the money or they just don’t care."
2. Without kibbles, Lucian and Emilie will not be able to carry out new rescues, the many dogs in distress will be hopeless.
"The number of dogs at the shelter is constant, we have many dogs that are being adopted, but we have about the same amount coming in the shelter each month. And since France is now in lockdown, we might have difficulties sending the dogs for adoption, we can only wait and see.
We are feeling frustrated, as we do not understand, with the large number of sterilizations we do, where these dogs keep coming from. We even offered to sterilize the ones in people’s yards and still, we have many coming. Still, the situation for abandonned dogs in Pascani has drastically improved over the last years, we feel good about what we achieved so far considering we started from absolute scratch, that's why we need to keep fighting.
What we basically do is save lives everyday. In order for us to keep doing so, we need help from people."
3. Nera only arrived at the shelter a few days ago, she is far too skinny to survive a food shortage.
"Nera has been with us for about 2 weeks. She is quite old, approximately 11 years old, she was taken to a pound 50km away from here. We have a vet we work with in that city, who calls us from time to time to get help, when she sees what happens to the dogs in that pound, as conditions there are really bad. She called us for Nera, and we took her in.
She is extremely skinny, if she does not put some fat on her, she will not stand a chance over the winter, and the cold is approaching so fast. She is eating and we are therefore hopeful that she will make it if we can provide enough food."
4. Donations have been dropping since the pandemic outbreak, Lucian and Emilie can no longer buy kibbles, and are overcome with worry.
"We depend on people for both adoptions and donations, which is extremely stressful. We get everything mostly from donations, and we definitely saw a drop in them. There are less and less people getting involved, as the pandemic has definitely affected everyone.
The City hall is supposed to help, but what they give us is far behind our needs, maybe worth 3 months of food out of a year, their help is not an option right now.
On a personal level, we give these dogs our time, resources, love, it is like they are our own. Actually, they are our own dogs and we suffer to see them get sick or die, or lacking food."
5. Lucian and Emilie are not asking for money, only kibbles to keep the dogs from starving.
"The high number of dogs makes it impossible for each of them to get the attention they all want/require, but we do have a lot of future projects for the dogs to have a better life because they deserve it.
The shelter has been up and running since 2014, and we've made improvements every year since then. It is a way to find hope when nobody else does anything, we work a lot for these dogs, and are totally devoted."
6. If this campaign succeeds, Lucian and Emilie will not receive any money but 3600 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistic platform in Romania.
