Animal Webaction visited the site 08 November 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"Right now we have 130 dogs at the shelter, the amount of dogs that we need to take to the shelter increases daily, not only from Veles, but also from the villages nearby. The situation is catastrophic!
When the dogs get here, every single one of them is vaccinated and castrated, but that doesn't mean they are healthy. Most of the dogs we've brought recently showed bad blood test results, they are in poor health.
We are going to be overcrowded very soon and I'm afraid there won't be enough resources for everyone... It's difficult for us to keep the dogs' health stable considering we don't have enough money. At the moment we have 50 kilos of food left. It is going to be enough for one week at the very most. Without food, I am afraid the dogs won't make it through winter..."
"Our current lack of food, funds, and space has direct repercussions on our actions. It's very difficult to take in new dogs and very difficult to feed the many strays at the landfill. We can only feed them occasionnally at the moment. One thing is certain, they are not going to survive winter on the landfill without food...
And considering we have many fragile dogs at our shelter, any lack of food would also have huge consequences. The weakest dogs will definitely be the first ones to pay the price, as they need a healthier diet than the others.
We have so many dogs here, but trust me I care about every single one of them! I cannot stop thinking of the troubles we might have if we don't get food for them. I really cannot imagine any of them starving..."
"Dona is 4 and a half years old. She’s been at the shelter for 6 months. We took her from her owner because of poor health and dehydratation.
She is ill with Leishmania, ehrlichiosis and has a tumor. She needs a special treatment and needs to be fed well to recover her blood and immune system. Without food, she's definitely in danger."
"We have a 12000 euro debt to the food supplier, in fact they no longer want to supply us... We have been banned from ordering because we owe too much money. We need food desperately!
We receive donations from individuals from time to time, but these donations are not stable, people are donating funds unpredictably. Currently, we don't have enough money, we are barely managing... I am afraid our shelter won't survive for long with these debts. This kibble donation would help us immensely. Please help us if you can!"
"I started taking care of abandoned dogs seriously in 2014, I haven't stopped ever since. We are a couple of volunteers here. Together we give these dogs a chance to survive and even be adopted.
We sacrifice a lot so this shelter can exist. We risk our health and the weatlh of our families so the ones who have been abandoned can have food and medical care. But the huge shelter can not be kept by a handful of individuals.
We need the municipality to pay attention on us, we need more volunteers and more donations. The quantity of abandoned dogs is insane in Veles, and it is constantly increasing, We have new dogs here every day. That's why donations mean a lot right now."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform directly in Macedonia, still active despite the pandemic, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Sometimes individuals are concerned and help us, sometimes not. I believe everyone have families and cannnot sacrifise their wealth all the time.
Sometimes other organisations help us find some place for a new dog. But they don't help with food, because everyone here has a lack of it. I am really stressed and anxious because of that...
We have a pretty hard job here, and the municipality won't provide any help at all. Food donations can save us for a while... Anything counts!"
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the organizer receives nothing and the buyers are reimbursed.
