Animal Webaction visited the site 20 November 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"The shelter is in distress, I don't have enough money to buy food for the dogs... I only have 20 bags left, which I save as much as possible by mixing it with leftover bread. Everybody is in crisis, even the restaurants, which used to give me leftovers to feed the dogs, don't open anymore.
I don't receive any more donations, I feel lonely, nobody is there to help me. In the current circumstances, people are more concerned about their situation and problems than about the fate of stray or abandoned animals. It is understandable yes, but really unfortunate!
I can no longer manage my shelter on my own without donations and help. I am desperate for these animals. I have a large number of dogs, if I don't get help, the fate of these poor dogs is unknown. I think about the future of my shelter all the time, I don't know when this nightmare is going to end".
"The number of abandoned dogs has not stopped increasing lately because of the crisis, I receive a lot of calls to rescue abandoned dogs from the street, that's why my shelter is overcrowded.
I am already only accepting the most serious and urgent cases, how could I do otherwise? I can no longer buy kibble, there is not enough space, I don't get any help to spay or neuter the dogs either... My dogs are fighting all the time between them at the moment, and they get hurt.
If I don't find help for the kibble, that will be the end of my shelter, I won't be able to move forward like that, because I don't have the means to finance everything".
"Kiwi had been taken to the pound from where I rescued him five years ago now. He is blind and in poor health, so having enough to eat is an absolute must for him.
Unfortunately the other dogs have been eating his bowl all the time for some time now because they don't eat enough themselves, and Kiwi is unable to fight. If his immunity weakens further, he will be at the mercy of diseases and infections".
"With all the difficulties of the last few months, I can no longer manage to finance my association. Between the rent, the salaries of the guards, veterinary expenses, food etc... The number of dogs has increased, not only because of the rescues but also because there are no more adoptions with all this.
I feel a great despair, I don't like to see the animals in this state, I try to do my best to give them a good life. My shelter depends on donations and adoptions, without these two essential things, the future is uncertain.
In Morocco there are no grants or sponsors that can help us overcome this crisis. No matter how hard I look for associations to help me or for sponsors, it doesn't work. I don't have the means to buy kibbles, I no longer work to finance the shelter, I will never be able to help these dogs on my own."
"My love for animals led me to create an association to protect these poor creatures. In Morocco, animals are very mistreated and people are not interested in them, that's why I thought of making this shelter and save all these poor animals from the human mistreatment they live in the streets.
My shelter is interested in abandoned dogs and stray dogs in general, but also in dogs from the pounds, who have always been victims of torture, violence, mistreatment until death. I welcome them in my shelter and offer them the necessary care, I also look for a family to adopt them and give them the tenderness and love they need.
I hope to find sponsors and associations to help me, and to be able to continue to help these dogs".
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"People are in crisis because of the pandemic, some have even lost their jobs or are only receiving half their wages. That's why they no longer donate or adopt dogs.
I have tried to look for associations to help me but unfortunately I have not found any so far, and locally, associations interested in dogs are very rare in Morocco.
My shelter depends mainly on donations, without donations my dogs will not have enough food and will not be able to benefit from veterinary care if they become ill, that's the reality".
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
