Animal Webaction visited the site 08 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
Note from the Animal Webaction team: We disapprove of the target of this campaign, which was set by the organiser despite our counter-arguments, it is too high and we fear a failure.
Animal Webaction cannot be held responsible for the deaths of dogs due to the absence of kibble.
"There are 340 dogs at the pound currently, the number of dogs is pretty much constant. Although this is a municipal pound, what the town hall offers is far from enough, they do not nearly cover 4 days of food in a week, because there are way too many dogs. It is even more true in winter, when it is so cold outside, dogs need to eat more to keep warm.
We are two volunteers, Florentina and I, doing our best to improve the lives of these dogs. Our help as volunteers here matters in order for them to be fed, but at this stage we have enough food for two more feedings only. I am currently feeling very insecure and worried about their future. We always face an increase in the number of abandoned animals during the winter, it is simply the worst time of all to run out of food.
I suffer from a very high anxiety, as I am facing my biggest fear : that the lack of food will lead to the dogs being put down, becoming very ill or killing one another. And all of our hard work until now will be lost"
"There are already consequences. We have had fights amongst the dogs for food in the past, with gravely injured dogs, and right now some of them are being bullied by others, more dominant dogs who get to eat their part.
If we don't find food for these dogs, they will severely fight among each other again, get serious injuries, sometimes deadly ones. Lack of food will also affect their health. And even if we have managed to avoid that until now, it may come down to euthanasia.
Our collaboration with the administration and employees of the pound is very good, we are allowed to go in and feed the dogs, and see to improve their living conditions. But no matter how good our collaboration is if we are not able to provide for these dogs anymore, there will be no other solution."
"Gina has been at the pound for about 10 months by now. She is a street dog of about 4 or 5 years old that was caught by dogcatchers, she never had a home.
Gina is a very shy dog, among stronger, more dominant ones in her pen. Unfortunately she is regularly bitten by the others when trying to eat, which puts her in a permanent state of fear, and also prevent her from eating her fill. Lack of food will only worsen things for her, and can only end in a very bad way."
"We cannot buy any more food because we just don’t have any more money at this stage. We are affected by the suffering of these dogs, deeply, but we can't cope with the situation alone as there are just too many dogs, and we get new dogs daily from the street.
We try to ensure food, to advertise dogs for adoption, to improve their living conditions, to bring them to the vet when needed. We sterilize annually, in the entire region, approx. 1000 dogs. And we also feed dogs that are abandoned in the woods.
But we owe thousands of euros to our veterinary doctor, and because many of our donors lost their job and income since the pandemic, there has been a big drop in donations. And we can't make up for it anymore., we've simply reached the end of our capacities"
"I first got to the pound in 2009 to claim the dog I was taking care of. Seeing the suffering of the other dogs and that no one was getting involved, I tried to form a group of animal lovers in town and get involved with what we could at the pound.
On the long run, I hope that there will be less abandoned dogs and that we will be able to sterilize more dogs and get more of them adopted. For this to happen, we have to be able to keep on helping this dogs, to keep on providing food for them."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Generally, in order to get more food for the dogs, we make calls to action and campaigns on Facebook, where we ask for donations and help feeding the dogs. But with the current difficulties people face everywhere due to the pandemic, it doesn't work that well, donations have been dropping.
We have also tried to reach out to other organizations, several times. Some of them have helped us as a one time thing, but most of them have ignored us."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
