Animal Webaction visited the site 10 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"I'm feeling very bad, hopeless... I can't cope on my own anymore, we are depending on other people's mercy. Right now there are around 60 bags of food left, which are enough for around 3 days. I don't care if people call us "beggars" at this stage, we need to do it for the dogs.
Our biggest fear is to no longer be able to find food for them. All our savings are already gone, and lately no one can hear us, it's a scream of despair! It's hard for us, winter is knocking but we are human and we have a soul, we can't give up on these dogs.
We invested everything in these animals. Without food, our only solution would be to let these dogs free, which is unconceivable. These dogs are my family."
"The first snow appeared, as if it wasn't hard enough, everything is harder in winter. There is no running water at the shelter, we have to bring it with a small truck all the time, and it freezes sometimes.
Also, we have to find hay for dogs to keep them warm during the winter, but due to the pandemic, hay has become really expensive and harder to get.
There are a lot of abandoned dogs, people keep throwing dogs in the road portion next to us. A few days ago I found a plastic bag with 6 newborn puppies that I’m feeding with the baby bottle ! It is impossible to ignore them, no matter the difficulties we are facing."
"Carla was found by my husband in Buzau, she was only 3 months old. Carla suffers from a severe skin disease : we've treated her several times already, she improved, but shortly after she fully recovers, the disease comes back even worse than before.
We won't stop caring for her, but whatever we do she can't improve without having good food, which we can't afford. She is a pretty shy dog with an already poor health."
"The pandemic took most of the few donors who were helping us. It is very hard, we have accumulated debts, and cannot work ourselves. Even if one of us was to take a new job, we would have to hire another person to keep up with the amount of work at the shelter. We gave up on our personal lives for doing this , and I still think we’re doing the right thing for them.
We've managed to prevent the worst so far mainly thanks to a dog food factory which lets us order food on credit, but we're worried sick that we won't be able to pay our food debts anytime soon, and if we lose this factory, I don't know what will happen.
It has been a difficult year, and I hope things will change in the upcoming one. I hope people will start to open their eyes on these animals."
"I have loved animals since I was a small kid. We grew up surrounded by animals. Everything started when we rescued Gogu, whose name we used for the shelter's name, who was in a severe situation, hit by a car and thrown at the side of the road, full of maggots eating his flesh. His story inspired us and since then, we started rescuing.
Whenever we feel we have too many dogs, we keep finding more and I can’t leave them like that. Sometimes you can’t get up from the bed from all the fatigue. Even then, god puts a dog in front of us on our routes and we keep finding hope for them."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We started a collaboration with a new association abroad a few months ago, they help us with adoptions which I am very grateful for, because dogs are meant to stay in a home, not in a shelter. They also help with food sometimes, but they are trying to help multiple shelters, so the food they gather is shared with others in need, and lack of food remains our main difficulty.
There are a lot of abandonned dogs unfortunately, and I do not think the amount of dogs at our shelter will ever get below 300. Even though there are free sterilisation campaigns in Buzau, people don’t care and they get rid of their dogs anyway, and I am sick of all the promises made by the state."
