Animal Webaction visited the site 28 December 2020 and confirms the situation described below.
"The association is currently hosting more than 200 dogs at the shelter, and is also feeding around 100 dogs in the street. The sanitary crisis has had a huge impact on the number of abandoned dogs, and has caused many difficulties for us to meet the animals' needs.
Thanks to the help of another association, Rapad Maroc, we have managed to feed the dogs so far, but the kibbles are almost finished, only 60 kg remain. We need help in order to be able to help and feed these animals.
We don't receive any regular income or subsidies, I already spend all my personal resources, it's a daily struggle. I am very stressed over the lack of kibbles, I feel overwhelmed and plead for your support".
"We have an agreement with the municipality: instead of shooting the street dogs that are reported to them, the local authorities bring them to the shelter.
If we don't have anything left to feed them, then we will not be able to accept the new dogs that are brought over to us. And if we don't accept them, then they will be killed by the authorities.
Our action is necessary for these dogs, I hope that eventually the authorities will take over this responsibility, because associations and volunteers cannot provide for all the needs. But in the meantime, we have to help each other".
"Pita arrived at the shelter heavily traumatised, she was covered with scars from being beaten, and her ears had been cut off. She unfortunately became blind as a result of the beatings she received.
We treated her at the shelter, where she has been living for 3 years. Her condition has greatly improved, but she is now 10 years old, her age and her heavy past are making her weaker and more vulnerable. She needs good food and care".
"We are facing many difficulties, the number of dogs on the street is increasing, we have to spay and vaccinate everyone, we have to fund the maintenance of the shelter, the food. Fortunately we manage to maintain adoptions, but it is usually sick dogs requiring special care who remain at the shelter. I do my best to ensure that all dogs can be cared for, but the costs are enormous.
With the arrival of the Covid-19 and the lockdown, there is a big drop in donations. In Morocco, people have limited means and are not necessarily mindful of animals, they think of other priorities. The premises of the shelter are given to us on a temporary basis, but beyond that we don't receive any help from the public authorities.
I don't have enough resources, I have sacrificed everything for the association and have accumulated large debts, especially with suppliers and veterinarians. I can no longer finance the daily needs, I am not giving up, but I hope to get help".
" Due to the massive abuse of dogs and cats in Morocco, my sister Habiba Tazi founded the association ADAN, officially, in 2004. Since then, we have been fighting to save dogs and cats, to develop a spaying and neutering programme, and to collaborate with the authorities so that they no longer kill dogs.
We do our best, but sometimes this is not enough. Even in the current circumstances, we are facing up to the situation and taking in new dogs, with the hope that we can find a way to feed them every day".
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.
"We contacted other associations and received help from Rapad Maroc and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, which has been supporting us for several years. But the stock of kibbles is now gone, and for the moment we have no prospect of further aid.
We manage to cover part of the expenses thanks to online fundraising, but this remains marginal. We sometimes manage to get by by buying leftovers on the markets, but here again it is not systematic. Everything is harder at the moment".
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.
