Animal Webaction visited the site 02 January 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"During the health crisis, there has been a wave of abandonment. At first I used to make daily rounds in my neighbourhood and its surroundings, but now I can no longer manage everything on my own without help. My shelter is full, I have stopped taking in new cats and I have stopped rescuing them.
But the worst thing is that I also stopped feeding them 15 days ago, I can no longer afford to buy more kibble. There are about 80 cats on the street, forced to make do by rummaging through the garbage, unfortunately. Several of them have fallen ill since then, they are weakened because of the lack of food, and will inevitably declare and spread diseases.
I am in panic, I am afraid for these cats that I no longer feed, and that I cannot even treat due to a lack of resources. I am afraid that diseases will spread, or that they will starve to death because of malnutrition".
"Kitty is a kitten born on the street, she is about 1.5 months old. Since I can't feed them anymore, all the stray cats in my neighbourhood and surroundings are rummaging through the garbage and have had to make do with the little they've found there for the last 15 days, Kitty included.
Unfortunately she has caught an infection, her eyes are stuck, she is not the only one in this case. I fear that her condition will worsen, that she will weaken further or that I will lose her if her body cannot attack and defend itself against the infection, because the lack of kibble is weakening her".
"I try to accommodate as many cats as possible in my home, but my flat is no longer big enough. The number of cats has soared in recent months, there are now 40 cats in just 50m2.
I don't have the means to feed and care for so many cats. I don't have any more kibble, and I can't afford to buy any more. The cats in my shelter eat rice with some leftover chicken, and they don't have enough to eat. I am afraid that they too will get sick and develop infections."
"Kouki suffers from congenital liver disease, which requires him to take a lifelong treatment in the form of injections. He is 10 months old, but seems to be only two months old, as he is very thin and small.
I am afraid he won't be able to survive without kibble, he urgently needs a good diet, rich in proteins and vitamins".
"I work as a sales administration agent, earning just over €400 per month. I already spend half of it to provide for my cats, my rent takes up a large part of the remaining half, I can't do more financially.
I can't afford to feed and care for 120 cats, when you know that a single spaying costs 40€ and a neutering 60€ ... I have unpaid bills at the vet, at the pet shop, everywhere, I'm afraid that my shelter won't be able to survive.
Yet I am the only one fighting for these cats in this area, it is essential that I continue for them".
"I have been committed to the cause of stray cats, to protect them from an early age, I make sure that they are happy and have rights. I campaign to stop the abuse of stray animals, I limit the proliferation of stray cats, and I raise awareness about the importance of the animal and the importance of spaying and neutering.
I offer street cats a lifebelt by feeding them, I make sure that they are protected and cared for, I carry out sterilisation campaigns, I shelter them as much as I can, I look for families for them to be adopted... I am terribly afraid that my financial situation will worsen and that I will never again be able to help and save stray cats for lack of means".
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I organise online fundraisings from time to time, I usually collect around €100, but now donations are declining.
In Morocco, few people care about the fate of stray animals or think about sending donations to this type of association. Even those who used to send me donations have been affected by the health crisis, they can no longer donate.
I have tried to contact other associations, but I can't find any to help me spay and neuter cats at the moment, nor have I found an association to help me buy kibble".
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
