Animal Webaction visited the site 17 January 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Many times, puppies are just dropped in fields or around houses and people message me to tell me where to find them... Because there are so many abandonements, and adoptions are currently getting fewer and fewer, it is becoming increasingly difficult to shelter and feed them.
Food is the most important thing, and I struggle with it a lot. A lot of the puppies under my care are coming from the Targu Frumos pound, but the municipality does not help with anything regarding the puppies. I am the one raising 100% of the funds going towards food for them. I take care of as many as I can, including in my own home.
The puppies have so many needs, some are sick, and need treatment and sometimes even those under treatment don’t make it. It makes me cry many times... I am afraid I won't be able to help them anymore if I don’t have enough food... I am afraid they will starve to death."
"Not only people are not sterilizing their dogs but they don’t have the open-mindness to allow me to do it for them even if it is free and I take their dogs to the vet myself... It seems people prefer to abandon the puppies when they are born... There are more and more each day on the streets.
We try to catch and bring as many as possible to the shelter, but it's very difficult. All these puppies need to be cared for, sheltered, sterilized, etc. I have parvovirus among the puppies right now. No matter how good you administer the treatment, many die. Some get through it, some don’t. There is a 50-50 chance.
We need to find food for them otherwise the battle will be lost in advance... Especially now that we're in winter and they need more food. Puppies are the most vulnerable ones."
"Leu is a 4 months old puppy. He's been at the pound for around 3 months now. He was found along with his brothers, some died of parvovirus.
He is currently sick with babesiosis. He just started treatment today, he needs good food to recover, lots of rest and to be taken care of very well."
"There is a big drop in donations, I think partly because of the pandemic and people's lack of resources, people have no jobs, they can barely pay for their bills.
But people here don't help much generally speaking anyway. Targu Frumos is a small town, surrounded by rural areas. Most people in the region simply do not care or do not have the education to care for animals.
Thankfully I have some foreign associations helping me out. I have an association in France that helps me with adoptions and 1 in Belgium that helps me with 10 sterilizations per month. Even with this help, it's not easy. For example, we usually had 20 adoptions per month, now because of the crisis, we can barely send 10-12 dogs each month."
"I've been involved with animals for more than 10 years. At first, I brought 1 home, then 2, then they got more and more... I worked actively and begged City Hall to help us fund the pound, then I worked to build it and get fundings. I spent nights here working like crazy to make this work. To be honest, if anyone would have told me a while ago that I would have achieved all this, I wouldn’t have believed it...
It started as a passion, but it turned into what my life is right now. Every day I say I cannot do it anymore but I keep doing it. I struggle with food, I beg at restaurants, friends, I post on Facebook and reach out to people for donations. I care about these dogs too much.
I would like to create my own association in the future because I am thinking people will donate more, they can redirect 3.5% of their taxes towards different causes. I think that would definitely help."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I do get some food from an event that is scheduled yearly in Iasi, called “Da’mi si mie o paturica” where people donate blankets, food, money, whatever they want for the dogs. We had the event a little while ago but the food is gone now.
I have no food left and there are no donations. They are so many puppies, I can’t do it all by myself anymore. That's why I am turning to you for help."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The organizer doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
