Animal Webaction visited the site 13 January 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I take care of 139 dogs at the shelter, which is now overcrowded; with the pandemic, the number of abandoned dogs has skyrocketed. The needs keep increasing and I can no longer cope.
Frankly, it's catastrophic. One day the dogs will eat, the next they won’t. My stock of kibbles has been over for a week, so I managed to buy a few additional bags, but I have been rationing the dogs. For example, today I only have half-a-bag left.
I try calling people who have stopped taking my calls, because they know I'm going to ask them for food. I get depressed, I can no longer sleep, I'm like a jobless, moneyless mother who cannot take care of her children. I see my dogs, my babies, my time that I've been investing for 7 years now going away for nothing..."
"I found Paco's mum on the street when she delivered her babies. She actually gave birth to dead puppies and Paco was the only survivor.
He is sick: I had to take him to the vet 3 times in 4 months.
He needs food because he is just a baby: he has to eat at least 3 times a day, while I barely manage to feed all the dogs, and I can no longer afford to take care of the few dogs that have specific needs or require operating."
"In Marrakech, I have witnessed some dogs that are in a catastrophic shape… Some are really thin, seriously injured or disabled, to the point that I have nightmares about them at night. Last time I went, I found a dead puppy getting eaten by a group of dogs.
I do my best to feed stray dogs... I try to look for leftovers from snack bars and restaurants, but on the one hand, it is not enough, and on the other hand, most of those shops have had to close because of the pandemic. Today, for example, I won’t be able to feed the dogs.
I keep on trying because they are my babies too, I have known some of them for a very long time. But I can't save them all..."
"I can't buy kibbles any more because since the pandemic started, there are no job nor money left.
I have huge debts with my suppliers, I can no longer pay the rent, nor water and electricity, and my landlord has been harassing me. My suppliers tell me that I should pay my debts first before I buy anything else — the situation is really catastrophic. And I haven't paid my employees in 4 months.
The last person I think of is myself, I don't even take care of my own needs anymore because I'm so frustrated and lost. I'm doing the best I can on my own, but I can't do it, I'm desperate. There's no one out there who will help these dogs."
"It all started in 2014 when I opened a boarding facility for animals, which turned into a shelter because I picked up a lot of dogs from the street and had a lot of abandonment too. I felt it was my calling: I live only for my animals and that's all I want to do.
Especially since with the pandemic, as people can no longer take care of their animals and dump them in the street: the need for food is huge!
I feel worried, helpless and disgusted by this situation. I see all these problems but I cannot fix them all. What I would like to do is to send a message to everyone: please help us, help these animals!"
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.
"No one knows when the pandemic will be over, everyone is worried, and even wealthy people can no longer afford to give.
As for Moroccan authorities, it's a lost cause, I ask them for help but they don't get back to me.
And yet, I have already saved a lot of animals, I have had many of animals sterilised and vaccinated, hence protecting them as well as, indirectly, human beings. But I can no longer act alone, I need strength, as well as moral and financial support. On my own I am doing the best I can, but my goals are unachievable if I don't receive help."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.
