Animal Webaction visited the site 03 February 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Serbia, Danijela has almost no kibble left to feed the 60 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if nobody helps them!

%%%

"Our kibble stock has already run out... we've just managed to buy 10 bags of cheap dog food on discount. We've only been able to get by these past days thanks to a little help from two local shops, who donated bread and butcher remains which I cook with the dog food to prolong our stash as long as possible.

But it won’t last for long, it is only a matter of days before we are left with nothing again. Dogs need to be fed well especially at this time to endure the cold weather, and to prevent the most fragile ones from getting sick. I am afraid that the sick, injured ones, as well as the puppies, will lose their lives if we don't find a solution quickly.

I'm ashamed for having to call for help, but it is only the two of us in the association. Everything has been more difficult since the pandemic including to find food,  this campaign is our only salvation."

2. Seriously injured in the street, Mogli was suffering from several broken bones, wounds and infections when he was rescued. Only 7 months old, he remains fragile and needs kibble.

###

"Mogli was found in a village near the city... He had a broken bone and several paws were hurt,  he had a terrible wound on one of his front leg, where would could see all the tendons. He suffered from infections as well, and was in horrible pain.

His condition has improved, even if the skin has yet to totally grow back on his wound. However, Mogli is only a very yound dog of 7 months old, who is still recovering, and I'm afraid of how the lack of food would affect him."

3. The association's second shelter is dedicated to handicapped and severely weakened dogs. Its 40 current residents are also threatened by the lack of kibble.

%%%

"Our association rescues badly injured and sick dogs from the streets and local pound. Jovica's shelter is especially dedicated to dogs in very bad condition, as well as handicapped ones.

We are lacking laws to protect dogs in our country, so they often get abused, poisoned, hit by cars... or they even freeze to death sometimes. People think that it is a crime to neuter a dog – but somehow throwing an innocent puppy on the cold street isn't?

We need support to keep rescuing the dogs from these cruel fates on the street, and considering the condition of most of the dogs we rescue, it is very important for them to eat well."

4. Prince had to undergo a double amputation after being run over by a car. Jovica's shelter was his only hope then and still is today, he needs kibbles.

###

"Prince was hit by a car, and has been with us for the last 4 years. His spine was broken in the accident, and he lost his two back legs as well that had to be amputated.

He is a wonderful dog, of about 6 or 7 years old, can you imagine how young he was when the accident happened ? He can walk now, with the help of a wheelchair, and still has several years ahead of him, but only if we can keep on feeding him properly."

5. The decline in donations seems to be dragging on, while abandonments continue to increase. Danijela and Jovica, indebted and overwhelmed, can no longer buy kibbles.

%%%

"The donations, which we depend on, have been dropping since the start of the pandemic, since a lot of people lost their jobs, and some people got sick as well so they couldn't help anymore. And there has been an increase of abandoned dogs at the same time, with a major issue with puppies, so many puppies on the streets. They are the most vulnerable ones, most of them die if they go unnoticed, especially during winter, we are very appaled, saddened and worried about this issue.

We can't manage to rescue all abandoned dogs due to their number, for lack of resources and capacity. Sometimes we rescue 3 or 4 dogs during the week, and they all need to have some kind of medical treatment, which means many expenses. We have huge debts at the vet for this reason, and our costs do not end there, from medicine, food, construction/repair expenses etc... We just can't keep up anymore."

6. Danijela and Jovica are not asking to receive any money, only kibbles to prevent the dogs from starving.

###

"We started doing this because of our love and deep empathy for the abandoned dogs, and because we realized the urgency of the situation, and we have been doing this for 7 years now.

We treat our dogs with love, care and understanding, we do our best to heal them from traumas and fears, socialize them, neuter and vaccinate them, and find them a forever home with responsible people.

It is very important to find help and to raise consciousness about these everlasting issues with the suffering of abandoned dogs. We are afraid that if the government doesn’t do anything to protect them finally, to spread awareness that dog owners should chip and sterilize their dogs... it will eventually become the wild west for dogs, despite our best efforts."

7. If this campaign succeeds, Danijela and Jovica will not receive any money but 1800 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Serbia.

Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.

8. Danijela and Jovica do their utmost to find support from local businesses, other associations and their community, but their efforts are not enough.

"We absolutely depend on all kinds of donations to feed our dogs and it means a lot to us that some local shops are supporting us. Same goes for a few foreign associations who support us while they can for surgeries or equipment for example, but they can't help with food at that stage.

These past months have been very challenging, we've also lost several doggies to diseases and old age, and it really broke us. What has kept us going though are all the other dogs who still need us, and we hope to be able to find help for them."

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail.
