Animal Webaction visited the site 10 February 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"There are currently 370 dogs at the shelter. There are more and more dogs and we rely on food coming from food and money donations. Unfortunately, these donations are not high enough to cover the needs of all the dogs.
The main difficulty is the lack of food, and during this season the cold is very strong for the dogs. Because of it, the dogs need to eat more in order to keep their bodies warm. However, in order to preserve our low resources, we already have to ration the food for we give them.
We only have food left for a few days at this stage. It's stressful because there is no way to predict what will be happening. Mostly, I'm scared. I spend eight hours a day at the shelter and I feel like every dog here is my own. The dogs didn't choose to come here, we took them in from the street, so we are responsible for every one of them."
"The cold and the snow are more and more present at the shelter. We are heartbroken, as we are unable to offer a warmer place to our protégés. Rolled up in balls at the bottom of their niche, some try to protect themselves from the cold.
We already see that the dogs are getting sick and skinnier, due to the lack of food. Since the cold here has just begun, we are expecting the same situation for the coming months. If the dogs don't get enough food they may die."
"Bazooka is a two-year old male. He was in a very bad state when we found him. He had been hit by a car and both his front legs were broken. He was operated and is now starting to walk.
Due to his injuries, Bazooka is especially vulnerable. He needs a good amount of food to heal and get better. He is still very young and has his whole life ahead of him, if only we can feed him enough."
"Our resources come essentially from donations, but it is definitely not enough. Some people are donating for only a few dogs through sponsoring, and we are left to try and find a way for all the others.
What makes things worse at the moment is that the help with food we usually receive from the city is adjourned, as the budget for 2021 has not yet been voted on. This means that for a couple of months, we have been left without any food deliveries from them, and we don’t know when they will resume. This help represents about half of the shelter’s needs on a monthly basis, which is far from enough, but still makes a big difference, especially in winter when we need so much food.
We already have debts, and there are dogs we cannot rescue due to lack of medical resources, we really need some help."
"In December 2015, the association signed an agreement with the Pascani town hall, officially making the Remember Me Land shelter the new dog pound, and thus closing the former horrible killing pound where so many dogs lost their lives.
Today, more than 5 years later, Remember Me Land is a shelter legalized by the Romanian administration, which shelters 350 to 400 dogs all year round, and has enabled the rescue of thousands of dogs.
There is a lot of work here. We are taking care of the dogs, we are working to keep them clean, to feed them and keep them happy. We also neuter them and give them medical care. As a dog trainer, I dedicate myself to getting the dogs adopted as much as possible. We’ve improved the adoption process a lot this past year, and manage to get many adopted despite the difficulties encountered since the start of the pandemic."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We do our best to collect donations, we post regularly and we have set up donation boxes in shops and veterinary clinics.
In addition to the 370 dogs at the shelter, we also have about 40 puppies in foster care, which we also have to manage and provide the necessities for.
At the end of the day, our biggest hope is to find an owner for every dog we rescue, but in order to get there, we need more help."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
