Animal Webaction visited the site 20 February 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I have 139 dogs at the moment, it is very hard to fund the rescue these days. There have always been lots of ups and downs, but it has mostly been downs for a while, and I am really struggling to feed the dogs.
I have kibbles left for a week and if I don't manage to find a solution rapidly, dogs will start being hungry and aggressive.
I'm afraid they will starve, it would be heartbreaking to watch this knowing how hard it is for them, and not be able to do anything about it. I care for these dogs as if they were my children, I would give anything for them to have something to eat, but I don't know what to do anymore."
"Here, in this area, many people abandon their dogs on the streets and there is no one but me to feed them. Which means that when I no longer have food to share, they no longer eat either.
Not to mention that if I cannot rescue them due to the lack of kibbles, they will get picked up by the dog catchers and they will end up 350 kilometres away in a dirty and crowded shelter, which is legally borderline. In there, there is not enough food for everyone anyway and how they care for dogs is not human at all... and many dogs end up dead.
I am afraid of what will become of all these dogs and I am devastated by the idea of having to leave them to their sad fate."
"Radovan is a hunting dog that was abandoned by his owner at the end of the hunting season. He might not have been efficient enough in catching prays, as when I rescued him he was just skin and bones. Clearly he could not manage to feed himself alone.
He has already suffered a lot from the lack of food in the past and as per his breed, he is a very active dog and he needs to eat a lot. Shouldn't he have enough kibbles, he risks getting thinner and thinner and might consume all of his strength. I am afraid that I will lose him one day."
"I rely on donations from abroad, mainly from Germany, but these donations barely allow me to keep it together and I had to borrow money a few times to be able to buy some food.
I do have one employee, but rarely any volunteers and I find myself very isolated, doing everything on my own at 61 years old. People here don't feel concerned, they are not ready to give out some time or money, and they won't adopt any dogs either.
I no longer make ends meet and I have no means left. Can you imagine how frustrating it is to never know if you will have enough for food or for the vet? As much as I would like to give my dogs some treats, I don't even have money to buy them kibbles...!"
"I started alone in 2010, by feeding dogs on the street around 5:00 AM and 6:00 PM. I fought hard against the system in place here with the dogcatchers, and created my association, 'PUŽ', in 2013, with a land rented from the municipality. I committed to my work: at the beginning there were 13 dogs, now there are 139.
It is hard for me to manage everything, but I do it with all my heart, even if there is only two of us. I am hoping for a better future for the dogs and for my association, I hope someone younger will be willing to continue my work eventually, and keep loving these dogs."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform directly in Serbia, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Two years ago, I received some food aid from ORCA, a local foundation with which I continue to collaborate, but the help they provide is no longer sufficient. The lack of funds and support is a real obstacle to buying kibbles.
People in Serbia are not interested in the condition of stray dogs and I feel tired and sad that people do not want to help... It's important that people support us, not only financially but in whatever way they think is right. Any help is welcome and we are infinitely grateful."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
