Animal Webaction visited the site 17 February 2021 and confirms the situation described below.

1. In Morocco, Ahmed's shelter was attacked.  The result is castastrophic: one dog was killed, others were wounded and kibbles were destroyed ...

Bags of kibbles have been ripped open!

"In early February, burglars broke into my shelter and ransacked it. They carried out a premeditated attack, they had watched our every move and they broke into the shelter while our guards were taking a break.

They stole vaccines, expensive medicines, dog accessories... They vandandalized the facility and destroyed everything around. On top of that, they threw stones and bottles at the dogs, there was broken glass everywhere.

The consequences for the dogs are very serious: one dog was killed and several were injured, one of them critically. The dogs are very affected and several are now showing fear. What happened is an nasty, awful thing."

2. Because of the assault, Ahmed has no more kibble left to feed the street dogs who live a life of misery; they risk starving to death!

###

"More than a hundred street dogs depend on me. I feed them daily although their number keeps increasing. But if I don't have any food to bring them, they will be so hungry they will eat anything at all. I regularly find intoxicated dogs, either because the little food they ate was spoiled or unsuitable, or because people who are hostile to dogs deliberately poisoned it.

I also have an agreement with the municipality: dogs in distress that get picked up by pound employees are brought back to the shelter and I take them in. If I have to turn them away because of the lack of food, it's fairly simple, they will be killed by the authorities!

The burglary and with it the ransacking of my kibble stock are putting all the dogs in my care at risk. I am constantly on edge, I cannot bear to think I will not have enough food to be able to save them."

3. Because of the assault, the dogs of his shelter will soon have nothing left to eat... Traumatized by the attack, they will now die of hunger if nobody intervenes!

###

"Among other things, the burglars broke down the door of the room where the food was stored and looted our stock of kibbles. Several bags were stolen, others were ripped open and destroyed, and most of the kibble was lost. It is outraging because we had secured reserves for a good month.

I find myself in great difficulty as my income remains too low to acquire a new supply of kibbles. I am desperately looking for food for my animals, as I have 200 dogs to feed... They have already been traumatized by the attack and now they are facing starvation... This situation is just so, so sad..."

4. Lilia was barely recovering from an accident when the attackers hit her with stones! Ahmed needs kibbles to feed her and to rebuild her trust in men.

###

"I found Lilia on the street six months ago, she was seriously injured; she had probably been hit by some vehicle. She needed emergency care and she was just starting to get better.

And yet the burglars assaulted her, they threw stones and glass at her and hit her! She has remained traumatized ever since, she stays on her own and let no one near her.

It will take some time before she starts trusting men again. But if we are able to bring her kibbles every day, she will at least understand that we mean her no harm. It will be a first step."

5. Ahmed must overcome the damage caused by the attackers. He has only meager resources to cope and cannot replenish his kibble stock alone.

###

"The association, which was working its way out of a precarious situation, was very negatively impacted by the break-in. I have to make repairs and buy back everything that was stolen, including food.

I am supported by the generosity of private individuals, both in Morocco and abroad, but despite their mobilization, I am not able to cover all the costs, especially with the veterinarians. Surgeries are expensive and the dog who was most injured during the attack had to be rushed to the veterinary hospital.

I have no stable income from public authorities, so I am in a position of constant worry. I sacrifice everything I have for the association, but given the situation and the unforeseen expenses, I can no longer buy kibbles due to a lack of means."

6. Ahmed is not asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving following this terrible assault.

###

"Since the creation of my association in 2004, I have never left a dog in distress without help, I save as many dogs as possible with the means I have. I have taken in seriously ill or injured dogs, sometimes in their last days of life. I try to be worthy of their trust.

I also fought hard with the authorities so they let me deal with street dogs. The role of the ADAN association is essential to their survival, not to mention the fact that I take care of their sterilization and complete vaccination.

I feel sad and frustrated about what happened, because it reflects a lack of education and awareness among some of the youth. In addition, people prefer to adopt pedigree dogs, which does not leave any room for common Moroccan breeds. Raising awareness among inhabitants is a daily fight that I lead with ADAN."

7. If this campaign succeeds, Ahmed will not receive any money but 4000 kg of kibbles, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles throughout the country.

8. Ahmed is struggling to find lasting partnerships, but the assault has created an emergency situation that this food campaign will alleviate.

"I am currently working to create links with other associations and I am always looking for new collaborations, but I have not received any concrete feedback so far.

It is a particularly difficult period for us, in a complicated health context, and we particularly needed the equipment and kibbles that were stolen from us.

Hence, I am counting on volunteers from all over the world. By helping each other, I think we will make it."
