Animal Webaction visited the site 20 February 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"The situation for abandoned dogs in my area is really bad. There are approximately 450 dogs in the shelter now, but the number keeps increasing... People usually just throw the dogs away at the shelter’s gate. We try to give them what they need, but food has become a major problem.
We can't buy any more dog food at this stage due to the lack of funding and donations. It is especially tough now because the dogs need to eat more during the winter. We only have kibble for three days left...
Because of the food shortage, I am worried that we will no longer be able to care for our dogs. I am very sad. My heart breaks when I look at them and know they expect me to feed them..."
"We've somehow been able to manage with the few resources we have... until now. Due to the recent drop in donations, we are finding it hard to get by. All we've been able to afford lately is the cheapest food on the market, in small quantities...
Some of our smaller dogs have already started developing skin diseases, probably due to the lack of nutrition... We now have to pay for their treatment, which we can't afford either. It's a vicious circle, and it's only likely to get worse.
If we don't find food soon, we're worried that we will no longer be able to take care of our dogs, and that we'll have to stop rescuing dogs altogether... I don’t even want to think about what would happen! We cannot be indifferent, we want to take care of them all, but we need food to continue."
"Gigi is about 9 or 10 years old, and has been at the shelter for 2 years and a half. We found him in the woods, he had most likely been beaten and abandoned. He had a broken skull, and he also showed bite marks from other dogs. He was thin as a toothpick and just in a terrible state.
He might have needed an operation, but the vet said it was too risky, so we brought Gigi to the shelter and treated his wounds. We have been caring for him ever since, and he is doing better now.
Even though Gigi is slowly recovering, he remains very skinny and is among the most vulnerable dogs at the shelter. It is very important that he eats enough. A lack of food would make him sicker... and we are afraid we might end up losing him."
"There has definitely been a drop in donations lately, which puts us in a difficult spot. We have been paying for food, sterilizations, and medicine ourselves, but now I am not sure how we will be able to continue...
We have more and more mouths to feed, while adoption rates are very low. I can't even blame it on the pandemic, people here are simply not interested in adopting from shelters. Some want to take dogs during school vacations, but they abandon them after they lose interest...
We don't receive any help from the town hall either, instead, they recommend that we put the dogs to death... Hopefully, there are some good people out there who will find it in their hearts to help us. We really need it to continue…”
"We started the shelter in 2016 with 10 dogs, and we now have 450. Our association was created in 2019 and is the result of my family’s love for animals and our attachment to them. Over the years, we have rescued dogs from terrible situations like puppies being drowned in the river, dogs dying in the field after being beaten or dogs left to freeze in ditches... The list goes on.
We strongly believe that every dog, cat, or any other animal, has a soul. They are innocent souls, not objects, gifts or toys. That’s why we do everything we can to rescue as many as we can and make them happy.
We’ve even gone so far as to dedicate our own home to the dogs. Everything we have is for them. We really wish that more people would feel the same towards dogs and stop mistreating them, abandoning them…”
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We post on our Facebook and Instagram pages to ask for donations and adoptions. We also ask people to come visit our shelter and bring us something directly, if they care to... we welcome every help we can get! But it’s getting more and more complicated now, people are donating less.
We have also reached out to associations in Germany, but they did not have the capacity to help us... My biggest concern is the current lack of food and the lack of funds. We don't have anyone else to turn to at this stage… We really depend on this campaign."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
