Animal Webaction visited the site 02 March 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I currently have 300 dogs at the shelter : over the last six months I have taken in more than 150 new dogs, they are so many and it costs a lot to feed them: that's my biggest problem. Now, I only have ten bags of kibble left, which means that in two days we will have no more kibble at all!
In the last few months I've had a lot of sick dogs, and several have died. If the dogs don't eat, they get sick, fight with each other, and eventually starve to death.
The idea of not being able to feed my dogs scares me. It's very difficult at the moment, because many people have lost their jobs, so it's not possible for them to make donations. I understand that. On the other hand, I feel left alone in this situation, especially since nobody knows when things will return to normal..."
"There are a lot of stray dogs that I cannot accommodate. I can't accept new dogs if I already can't find enough to care for those already at the shelter... it's very difficult.
If I can no longer give them kibble, they will go and look for food elsewhere, at the risk of ending up in an accident or being killed... And there is also the worry that they might attack humans in the process.
It is really my greatest fear that we will run out of food! I still have a glimmer of hope that we can continue to take care of the dogs, but to do so, I need to find more kibble quickly..."
"Blacky is a ten-year-old female who has been at our shelter for two months. I found her tied to my door with an iron chain, she had been abandoned during the night. She was completely skeletal, and she couldn't even walk a few meters!
She also had external injuries which we treated. It took several weeks for her to get better, due to her being malnourished. She still needs to put on weight, and without kibbles she won't be able to cope."
"I work 24 hours a day so that I can feed the dogs. I pay for the food myself, with my own money, but I have had a lot of financial difficulties. As a result, I had to sell some of my personal belongings to be able to buy kibble.
We receive some donations through sponsorships, but that is not enough. We are receiving fewer and fewer donations compared to the times before the pandemic... it's a crisis everywhere.
Now I find myself in a lot of debt, especially to veterinarians and food suppliers. There are not enough resources, not enough donations, not enough help... I need help."
"I bought the land for this shelter in 2005, but I have been active for much longer than that. I started out in Europe and then opened my first Moroccan shelter in the 1990s. I have always had a lot of affection for animals, seeing them suffer makes me suffer too, and it is my calling to take care of them.
My efforts are very important, because I don't just accommodate the dogs, I also sterilize and vaccinate them. In addition, I manage to find families to take them in... By doing all this, I help to reduce the number of dogs on the streets. It is also a service to society, since they can be very dangerous for humans!
That being said, doing all this on my own is not easy. I need help, and I need more people at my side who support me so that we can reach the perfect goal... at least in Marrakech."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I have tried to contact associations in Europe, but to no avail. I haven't given up yet, though, and I plan to contact others very soon... but I need help urgently.
The pandemic has really had a devastating effect on donations and, at the same time, the situation of dogs in my town is getting worse. I just wish people would be more aware and understand that animals are living beings, who need, among other things, to eat as well."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
