Animal Webaction visited the site 04 March 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"The number of abandoned dogs has increased very significantly recently. Only a few months ago, I was feeding around 30 of them and now they're 80 of them in the streets... Unfortunately, because they're so many of them and my donations are so few, I'm no longer able to feed them...
These street dogs live in a constant state of distress. They are often suffering from numerous health issues due to malnourishment and abuse. If I can't find kibbles for them soon, I'm afraid they will become weaker, get sick... or become hostile towards people.
I feel anxious, sad and angry when I think of all those poor souls who have been mistreated and left to survive on their own. My biggest fear is to no longer be able to help them...I really hope that with the help of this campaign, I can resume taking care of them as I did until now. They need it... they need us."
"Sarenko has been living on the streets for the past 10 years, his whole life. With age and after all this time on living in harsh conditions, his health is now getting worse. He has a tumour on the chest that makes him very weak and vulnerable comapared to the other dogs.
He's on the street, and for now I can't take him to the shelter, there is no space at all, even for a small dog, we're completely over-capacity. It's really important that I find a solution to feed him as soon as possible, and eventually have his tumour operated, it's a matter of life or death"
"I currently have 60 kilos of kibble left for the dogs at the shelter, this will only last another few days, after that, I'll be all out. The current lack of food is already forcing me to give the dogs smaller portions, they don't eat enough, and what they eat is of low quality.
I'm really concerned about the lack of food... If I'm no longer able to feed them or if they keep eating low quality food, their immune system will get weaker and they will be more prone to catching diseases, they might even starve... it's simply inconceivable.
Some of the dogs at my shelter have been here for years, some, were rescued recently and are in terrible condition. One has been shot, another was barely saved from euthanasia... All the dogs at the shelter require a lot of care and food, it's essential to their survival."
"Beli was caught by the dogcatchers and brought to the pound. There, they were going to have him euthanised. I saved him right on time and brought him to the shelter.
Beli's back legs are paralysed and he is blind. He is in a very critical and weak state and absolutely needs to be well taken care of. If I don't find a solution and the lack of kibble persists, it will be certainly fatal for him."
"The pandemic has had, and still has to this day, enormous consequences on my actions. Donations are very few, and the expenses keep increasing, together with the number of dogs in need. I have debts and it is getting harder and harder to find a way to fund the rescue.
Besides the lack of finances which is a constant issue, there is also too much work to be done by me alone. With the number of street dogs increasing, more help is needed, I am doing my best to help as many dogs as possible, but it’s still not enough.
The adoptions at the shelter are also very few, only 2 dogs got adopted in the last month. Everything just seems to be getting harder and harder..."
"The association “Alisa” was created 10 years ago. I created it with the intention of helping abandoned and mistreated animals. My goal is to provide dogs with necessary medical care, shelter, food and eventually, a forever home.
I do my best to achieve that goal but it's not easy, especially considering the constant abuse and neglect of dogs in the region. I see horrible cases all the time : dogs beaten to death and thrown into bins, dogs being poisoined...
The association relies on donations and help from volunteers and we welcome every help we can get.; food and medical treatments being amongst the most important ones."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Serbia which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We are facing the lack in donations right now, donations have dropped since the beginning of the pandemic and I don’t think that the situation is going to change any time soon, sadly. People are not able to help right now because of the bad economic situation, caused by the pandemic.
Other organisations are also facing the same problems as we do so they are not able to help us out right now.
With the donations constantly dropping and the number of stray dogs increasing, I will be put in a very difficult situation if I fail to find food. I hope this campaign will work and that dogs will have enough to eat."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
