Animal Webaction visited the site 09 March 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"We currently have 270 dogs at tour shelter. Things have been very difficult, donations have dropped drastically since the pandemic started, and there haven't been any improvements since then.
We worry a lot about not having enough food to provide for all our dogs. We only have 9 bags left right now, not even enough to cover one day. We love them all, and it breaks our heart to know that they might not have anything to eat. If they don’t eat, dogs get nervous, some of them even get aggressive against one another.
This uncertainty is painful and stressful. We are constantly searching our minds to know how we could do better, we pray every day to receive a sign to know how to keep them safe and fed... We are trying to find hope everywhere we can. We desperately need this campaign to succeed."
"We have had some serious cases lately that involved many trips to the vet and many sleepless nights... We have cases where the dogs underwent long surgeries, and we have several sick dogs too. They are our main concern.
They need to eat, a lack of food would be catastrophic for them. Without food, they may not recover, and they would not survive for long. We want what is best for these dogs, we give them all our love. We need help to keep them fed and safe."
"Rafaelo is a four-year-old male who has been with us for only two weeks. A man found him lying on the side of the road, he had been shot in the shoulder and his leg had been cut off. The vet said these injuries were intentional, and Rafaelo needed extensive surgery.
After a week at the clinic, we took him to the shelter where we clean his stitches and keep him inside so he stays warm. Despite everything he went through, he is extremely loving... even with strangers. He is still at the beginning of recovery though, and he cannot heal without food."
"The pandemic took us all by storm and messed everything up. There is an economic uncertainty in Romania, many people have lost their jobs and fear for their livelihood. Before the pandemic, we were able to get by on donations most months. Now, 90% of those donations are missing.
In addition to the pandemic, we have also had problems with the intense rain this season. We constantly had to buy more materials to keep the kennels from flooding. We couldn’t let the dogs suffer in the water and cold, so we had to use our personal funds to solve this issue.
We have debts to the vet clinic in the amount of 2000 euros, which is an enormous sum in Romania. We are aware that it is going to be a while until donations bounce back to the level they were at before, and we don't know how we will be able to procure food in the upcoming months."
"We have always been big animal lovers. We started out with 40 dogs in our backyard but soon realized that the situation was getting out of control, so we founded this shelter four years ago. Since then, we continuously see new cases of abandoned and mistreated dogs... it never stops.
Our rescue is needed because we are the only shelter near our town. As a country, we still have a long way to go when it comes to this matter... the many, many dogs we find abandoned or in bad shape is evidence of that."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Due to the pandemic, a lot of local businesses that used to help us have gone bankrupt or are closed. This is devastating to us, since we have lost a big part of donations that way. Other organisations cannot help us either, since they are struggling themselves.
We barely receive donations, and the amounts we do receive are very small. We are constantly trying to find new ways to resolve this and do everything we can. We go to crowded areas, like supermarket parking lots, to collect food right there on the spot. Depending on how lucky we are that day, we can get enough food for up to 2 days at most.
The economic situation will not change very soon and we are afraid we will have even more trouble finding the help we need. This campaign is our only hope now, we need it to succeed so we can feed all the beautiful souls in this shelter and make sure they are taken care of."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers are refunded.
