Animal Webaction visited the site 10 March 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I have been helping stray dogs for 25 years and today my pension does not even cover my own expenses. I lack manpower and resources and I don’t even have time to breathe.
The little personal money I have, I use it to buy what I can for my 120 dogs. And should I have a few bucks left I would buy kibbles anyway, as I only have 5 days of food left right now...
If the food goes totally missing, I would be in a hopeless situation. I already lost 4 dogs recently and several others in the shelter are severely ill... What if they don’t eat on top of that? They will die, it’s obvious."
"I already see stronger dogs grabbing more kibbles than weaker ones. I have to keep the dogs separated, constantly checking the fence to confirm it is not damaged, and I I do not leave until I see all of them eat enough food when I feed them.
I don’t know how many times I go out during the night just to check everything is okay. If I hear some suspicious sounds I wake up immediately and go out to see what is going on.
But should kibble go missing, all the dogs will be in danger. Packs of dogs will attack the weaker dogs and if they do not eat well, neither sick dogs can recover, nor old and weak dogs can survive.
"Tale was left abandoned on the vet doorstep... He was there for three months, living in too small a space, and as no one wanted to adopt him he ended up in the shelter.
He is scared and hiding all the time from other dogs, making sure he doesn’t bother anyone."
"The money comes from my own pockets or from the few volunteers who are helping as well. We regularly gather some money between us to buy some offal, but it is far from enough.
I am in debt to the veterinarian and I have no idea if I will be able to repay him. And it's even the little things... we had to ask people to give us brooms for cleaning and buckets for the water, we buy wire bit by bit to repair fences, we collected money to buy a stove..."
"I gave up a very privileged life to dedicate myself to dogs. Back then, I didn’t know I would be sitting in torn clothes, caring for the dogs 24/7 at the age of 70. And still, even today, in this situation, I don’t regret it and I would do it all over again thinking back to all the sweethearts I could rescue.
People keep telling me that I need to take care of my health, that I am old, but what can I do? I grew old, that's true... But I can’t help it, it is stronger than me, I would never leave my dogs and I would go to the end of the world to make sure they eat enough. "
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Serbia which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I get some assistance from a French association, Mukitza. They help with getting dogs adopted in England and in France. A local company had also donated a number of necklaces and leashes that we used so the dogs could travel.
But these organisations do not have the means to help me more. As for the government, it is like we don't even exist. I wish the campaign would work, maybe I would eventually be able to enjoy a beautiful day like any normal human being, knowing my dogs will be safe."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
