Animal Webaction visited the site 03 April 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Before the pandemic I used to get some leftovers from restaurants. Now that restaurants are closed, there is no food left to give away. I even had some donations every now and then but now, people have no money so... I don’t get any donations.
Abandonments on the other hand, have known no crisis. People don't sterilize their dogs, and continue to abandon the puppies. The number of puppies abandoned has increased massively, whether it be in the woods, fields, near trash cans or even in front of the shelter's doors...
Ever since I started rescuing dogs in 2009, now is probably the first time I have more puppies than adult dogs... The terrible thing is, I only have a few cans of food left for them. Some of them are already sick... If I don't find food, they won't survive much longer...I feel desperate, I panic just thinking about what might happen to them."
"Unfortunately, we have cases of parvovirus and lyme disease among the puppies at the shelter. Of course, I tried to isolate the ones with parvovirus, but the virus hit so strong this time that some puppies didn't make it... I've lost 4 of them in the past few weeks and 8 of them are currently at the vet's office, fighting for their lives.
With the virus running around, any prolonged lack of food will have disastrous consequences. Puppies will get sick and who knows how many more will die...I don’t feel good about what is going on because I love them all, and I genuinely do all I can to help them.
My only wish is for them to get better, and eventually find them a loving home. But before this can happen, I desperatly need to find some food. All our efforts otherwise, will be for nothing..."
"Capucino is 4-month-old female whom we've been taking care of for around 2 months. When she came to us, Capucino had parvovirus and lyme disease. I was convinced she would not make it.
She is doing better now but is still fragile, and in case of a total food shortage, would be completely unable to fight for her food. She needs enough food to make it. "
"People have lost their jobs and have no money to donate. My adoptions have dropped as well, I used to send around 20 dogs per month for adoptions abroad, but now, despite the help of a foreign association in that regard, I can barely send 12-13.
With 126 puppies to take care of currently, food is running out extremely fast, and I can't buy any more... Even though I ask for donations on social media or to friends, I am not getting much. I am already in debt, I can't make it on my own.
Another one of my concerns is that if I ever get sick, I have no idea how the shelter will survive... We definitely need some exterior help to overcome this rough patch and make sure our puppies are safe."
"I started this association in 2009 with a few dogs placed at friends' houses who had some space in their yard to host a few dogs. When the dogs got more and more, I started building a shelter. I now have 65 adult dogs and 126 puppies to take care of altogether.
I spend all my time here, I feed the dogs, give them their meds, take them to the vet, spend time at the vet’s feeding them, take care of the adoptions, I look for fundings... I am very sensitive to these animals' fate and even though it's difficult, I just cannot leave them on the streets, knowing that if I don't pick them up, the dogcatchers will take them to the pound, where they will be euthanized... I just can't.
Our actions are very important in that sense because around here, there aren't many people who love animals like we do..."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"There are constantly more and more puppies being abandoned. I received a call a few days ago about 2 puppies, another about 9 puppies and their mother... It just never stops.
We absolutely need the help of other animal lovers because without the help of people like us, these dogs will be euthanized. The local authorities do not care about animals, and do not have any respect either for the people who are indeed trying to help them."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The organizer doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
