Animal Webaction visited the site 03 April 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I currently have 90 dogs at the shelter, and the situation is very difficult. These are challenging times for everyone, there are noticeably more dogs abandoned on the street because of Covid-19, and at the same time donations are dropping.
The dogs are already not eating enough, because we don't have enough food at the shelter. I try to stretch the kibble with bread to make it last longer, but by the 10th of April, we will have run out of kibble altogether.
I have high blood pressure and troubles with sleeping because of the lack of kibble, the pressure and insecurity weigh heavily on me. I feel very sad and powerless. I will keep doing my best, but it is painful to see what is happening to these innocent creatures."
"Under these conditions, I will not be able to save any new dogs from the street. Even though there is enough space in the shelter, I cannot rescue new dogs if I cannot provide for them... But if stray dogs are not rescued, most of them are caught by dogcatchers and put down within 20 days.
I am afraid of what will happen if this situation lasts longer, and how it will end... I need to keep these dogs out of the street, they are not safe there and it is just a matter of time until dog catchers catch them and have them euthanized."
"Harry is four years old, and he used to be a hunting dog. Unfortunately, his owner abandoned him when he wasn't satisfied with his hunting anymore. He was found on the street and taken away by a dog catcher... We saved him from the kill shelter where he was going to be euthanised.
He has just had surgery to remove an ulcer and close the open wound. He is very skinny and malnourished, but he is a playful and wonderful dog, full of love and life... He just needs kibble to recover from the surgery and malnutrition."
"The shelter is not doing well, mostly because of Covid-19 and the restrictions that come with it. The donations have dropped by about 50% since the start of the pandemic... lots of people are out of work, and many are sick and insecure.
We have also had to deal with snow and heavy rain, which brought a lot of damage. Floodings destroyed the road at the entrance to the shelter, cutting us off... and we have to pay for the repair ourselves. Water also entered into the shelter, so I had to buy an extra net to separate the dogs from the danger.
Most of our resources are used to buy kibble, but there is not enough... I just hope for all this to end really soon and for people to get back to normal lives and have more time and will to help the dogs."
"I give all my love and care for the dogs. I don't have enough to provide them with everything they need, but they are having a better life than where they would otherwise. I came to Jabuka with a mission to save dogs and I am giving my life to this project, I give everything I have.
My shelter is needed because I keep the dogs from the street, where they would be picked up and euthanised. I just wish my health stays good enough so I can cope with all of the issues."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I reach out to other organizations to ask for help all the time, but nobody is taking on new projects. I have a few people who help me, and we have a Facebook group for the shelter, but since the pandemic, we are hardly receiving any donations... People are worried about their own existence.
Adoptions have come to a halt because of the pandemic, too. For months, we have had dogs waiting to be transported to their new homes, but we don't know when they will be able to travel and cross the border... We always receive the same answer: "next month"...
I always need food for the dogs, I am constantly searching for solutions and donations, but there is just not enough. The dogs depend on this campaign."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
