Animal Webaction visited the site 09 April 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I feed about 130 stray dogs daily, 100 of them in two landfills and the rest on the streets, and I am running out of resources as there has been a donation drop due to the new wave of coronavirus.
The situation in the landfills is particularly horrific: if I don't bring kibble, landfill dogs have to eat corpses of goats and cows to survive, and they regularly die of diseases and starvation. Meanwhile, on the street, there is a new lockdown and all restaurants are closed - which means street dogs are not getting food and won't survive either if I can't bring them kibble.
Now, let's face it: with 150 kilos of kibble left, there is never going to be enough food for everyone. That scares me wild, because strays will just starve."
"Azi is a 2 year-old male, we have known him for several months and have been feeding him on the streets. He has got mange and probably a broken front leg which healed creating a mass on the front leg.
Further examinations are required to determine the situation with the leg and foot, but above all he needs to eat: he is a big Kangal and he is only half the weight he should be."
"In addition to stray dogs, I have 60 dogs at the shelter. We have had a lot of success with adoptions lately, but our goal is to save many more dogs in distress.
I bring in injured or sick dogs, even pedigree dogs who have got sick and whose owners decided not to spend their resources on, abandoning them after having kept them for years...
These dogs are ill and need to get better, they need to be fed well in order to recover and bear aggressive treatments. Their hunger is my main concern, we are desperate for kibble. I don't want anyone to starve here. But with no food they are going to die. Lack of kibble makes things here much harder."
"Ayla is a 4-year-old female, she has been in the shelter for 3 months. She was found abandoned, with heartworm disease and pregnant.
She had to undergo a C-section as she could not give birth normally, and then her abdomen started to fill up with fluids and she had to be put on strong medication. Of course she could not nurture her puppies, only 2 survived out of 9 despite us bottlefeeding.
Ayla has still a very poor health, she is very fragile and needs kibble 3 times a day in small portions in order to gain weight gradually, otherwise she won't make it."
"We have donations from abroad. That's how we survive. Our income is never constant however and we don't have any partnerships, sponsors or help from the government.
We can't even afford to buy kibble. It makes me feel desperate, helpless, not to have food... Besides, stray dogs we rescue are the most endangered ones, everyone of them is sick, so it takes time, energy and above all money that we don't have to pay our vets: we owe money to three of them and our debts are getting bigger.
The little funds we have are simply not enough to cover everything and we can't manage anymore."
"Kane Korzo started with a protest and grew into this shelter. We wanted to protect and rescue dogs, find homes for them. Someone had to try taking care of all these abandoned dogs, that's how the shelter was founded.
I am very devoted to the dogs. I even sacrifice the time I could spend with my newly born baby just to feed our 20 new puppies - they are so small, I have to keep an eye on them!
I have huge plans for the future as well, my husband plans to build more quarantine cells for newcomers, we want to expand the space a little bit to bring more dogs, to isolate them, provide them medical treatment, and try to find home for them. But we really need some help, these dogs need to survive first of all."
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Macedonia, still active despite the pandemic, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We have no employees, just three volunteers, I'd be happy if I had more! We have nearly-to-none local help and local people here are not interested in adopting dogs from shelters.
We have online fundraising only on Facebook, that is the only thing that works a bit, people repost our posts and donate as much as they can, but still not enough so we can afford food. We need people's support as it's simply impossible to manage just on our own."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
