Animal Webaction visited the site 07 April 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Many people are unaware of the state of the animals here. There are so many abandoned dogs thrown into the street, and their number has increased a lot due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, there are more dogs on the streets that I would like to help and rescue, but it is impossible for me with the resources I have.
Finding food for dogs has become very difficult due to the pandemic as well, and the restrictions implied. Helping and reaching them all has become extremely difficult. Currently, I can only get food from a processed meat factory that is still running, the amount I have will be enough for less than 2 weeks.
If I can't find food for these dogs, they'll starve and get sick. I am very worried, this state of incertainty is driving me into despair, I really need some help."
"Yasli is actually a very young dog, but he suffers from malnutrition, lacks vitamins, and is suffering from scabies. Unfortunately he is very afraid of people in general and does not let himself be caught.
I'm gaining his trust little by little, eventually I'll be able to catch him and give him the care he needs, but for it to happen I need to be able to keep bringing him food, it's essential."
"I am dealing with 41 dogs in total here in my shelter. I especially help if I see scabies, sick or pregnant dogs on the street that need to be rescued.
The pandemic made an already difficult situation into a very tricky one. Abandoned dogs increase, while it has become impossible for me to send dogs to families living abroad who want to adopt them, because of the restrictions.
My activities are very important for those innocent dogs, I will live with them until the end of my life, I will take care of these dogs. But I am worried about illnesses if they are malnourished, I am afraid of not having enough food and resources for them."
"Border is a dog of 5 years old, rescued from the council's shelter. He has been mistreated, was suffering from several diseases, and extremely skinny when I rescued him.
Unfortunately he is still very reserved for the moment, his behaviour is probably related to the trauma he experienced in the past. Although he might look healthy now, is health condition is precarious due the past issues and lack of food he's already had, malnutrition would be very dangerous for him."
"Unfortunately, the number of donors and those who want to help with food decreased during this period, while the number of dogs in need of rescue is growing everyday. Since I can no longer find food from places like restaurants, I simply don't have enough supplies to feed them all.
I've even been fined for taking care of a pitbull crossing dog, and I'm having a hard time paying for it, I cannot buy kibbles. This is my only concern, that my dogs are starving from a lack of resources and may become ill because of it.
Unfortunately, there are not many people who are interested in abandoned dogs like me in this region. That's why rescuing these dogs as I'm doing is very important here and I don't want to give up. There is always hope in me, it has always been there from the very beginning, I hope everything will be alright soon."
"In 2002, we came to Alanya with my deceased husband for a summer vacation. I saw a dying dog on the beach roadside with razor injury and bleeding, I caught the help me look in his eyes. My life changed that day. I took that dog to the vet and took care of it all, and when I took it back to the vet for control 2 weeks later, the vet was surprised because it was an impossible dog to survive. Then I prayed to God and said give me strength so I can save more dogs. We sold all our homes and assets, moved to Alanya and established this shelter.
I am happy with the point we have reached now. I rescued so many dogs and thanks to them, I was able to regain life every time. I can no longer imagine a life without them."
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Turkey, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I don't have any regular sponsor or partner, I used to manage essentially by requesting waste and excess of food from local businesses and restaurants in the area to feed the dogs. And I am very lucky there is still one processed meat factory that accepts to help me from time to time.
Selfish people who throw dogs out when they have enough of them, are unaware of the pain they inflict on these dogs."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
