Animal Webaction visited the site 22 April 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"The situation is awful. People abandon more and more dogs, no matter their breed, age, or sex. At the moment, I have around 70 strays in my care, although the number of strays in the area is much bigger than this. Unfortunately, I don’t have the power or resources to help all of them, but I try to make a difference as much as I can.
I’ve been doing this for the last 6 years using my own funds and receiving some help from now and then. Unfortunately, the pandemic impacted everyone’s income and I’m out of options. I have 16 bags of kibbles left, which will only cover the needs until the end of April.
I feel helpless. I’m afraid of not being able to find food in time, I’m concerned for the life and well-being of these dogs in my care. The situation is really stressful, I have no other means to find more kibbles, and no one else to turn to."
"Given the fact that this is a remote area just outside the city, I find dogs tied in bags, puppies in boxes, and even dogs wired to trees. The number seems to be constant, I managed to find adopting families for some of them, but unfortunately, the total number is not decreasing because new dogs keep showing up in the area.
If I cannot find enough food in due time, the strays in my care will suffer, and I’ll be unable to help new ones that are in distress. If stray dogs don’t receive enough food, they have to search for it. They go out in the street and risk being hit by cars. They also go closer to people in the area, sometimes they can also become agressive to people, or start fighting with each other, which makes people call the dogcatchers who bring them to a kill shelter.
These dogs are the product of people’s ignorance and carelessness, and their suffering has to stop. I feel disheartened seeing too often dogs dying alone in the streets and no one caring about their suffering. I feel that is my duty as human being to compensate for the wrong doing of my kind, and I need all the help I can get to keep providing for them."
"Moo showed up in the area around a year ago, and joined a pack of dogs that live in front of an auto dismantling company. I go there every morning to feed her and the others, and to check on their health.
Many people around here are not too fond of the idea of having strays in the area, even though some of these same people contribute to the situation. Moo and her pack are at risk of being poisoned if their presence becomes too noticeable, and too much of a problem, which will happen for sure if food is lacking.
The unlucky ones in the Danube-Black Sea Canal area really depend on my help for survival, their fate depends on my capacity to provide them basic subsistence. I fear that all my efforts and sacrifices so far might be in vain unless I can continue to do so."
"I generally fund my rescue actions from personal resources, and from time to time, I get help from my English friends that are also involved in dog rescue. Unfortunately I ran into major difficulties in the last year due to global circumstances. I spent several months deprived of my income as my company had to shut down for a while.
The global situation impacted everyone’s income and the donations are almost absent now. I know that some people would like to help, but they cannot, and I don’t have enough funds to buy food on my own for more than 70 dogs. Even if the situation breaks my heart, I’m just a simple person with limited resources.
I truly hope this campaign succeeds, and helps me in my constant struggle to provide the dogs with care and food."
"I’ve been taking care of these dogs for the last 6 years. I love them and they depend on me for survival. No matter the season, weather conditions, or even the state of my health, I wake up every morning 2 hours earlier to bring them food and water before getting to work. I bring them food, water, and medicine.
Unless there’s a major change in the country’s legislation, I fear that the situation will not improve at all, and I just hope that at least I’ll be able to sort things out the same way I’ve been doing for the last 6 years. Stray dogs deserve a better life."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Romania, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
The only help that I get is from my friends in UK, but their resources are also limited. There aren’t many rescue organizations in our country. The existing ones have their hands full, and our country has no legislation to help the dogs or even us as rescuers.
I also try my best not to draw too much attention on the area, to prevent local authorities from reacting by sending dogcatchers, which means that I am limited in my attempts to get help with food."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
