Animal Webaction visited the site 04 May 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"We have around 300 dogs at the shelter at any given time... Dogs come and go, as we try to get as many of them as possible adopted, but at the same time, we constantly find new abandoned dogs to take in. Many of these dogs have health issues, often because they've been hit by a car.
We try to give them what they need and keep them fed. However, we recently lost our online support after our Facebook page got hacked, and now we don't receive enough donations to buy food. Today, we only have around 25 bags of kibble left, which will last us two days...
The lack of kibble is our biggest issue. It's very difficult, we worry a lot about tomorrow. Our main fear is that we won’t be able to help these dogs anymore. We really hope the campaign will be successful."
"If we don't find kibble soon, the dogs will go hungry and start fighting. This has already happened in the past, at times where we didn't have enough kibble for all of them and could not feed them enough.
The dogs immediately became aggressive towards one another... Fights can lead to very unpleasant situations and serious injuries. We cannot let that happen again, let alone let them starve!
Of course, we need food for the dogs currently in our care. But there are also constantly more and more abandoned dogs everywhere that need our support. Without kibble, we won't be able to rescue them either. This would be devastating."
"Fronica is 12 years old, and we took her in only two weeks ago. She was found on the side of the road, abandoned. Her owner had kicked her out because she got sick: Her front leg is swollen and may have to be amputated. We have had a bone biopsy done to see if it is cancer, and we are waiting for the results.
At the moment we keep her on antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and pain killers. She is very weak and has a weak immune system, so it is essential that we feed her well. She will not survive the upcoming treatment without kibble."
"We entirely depend on private donations and sponsorhips, mostly from abroad. Our friends in France set up a support Facebook page, through which we have been collecting donations and arranging adoptions so far. However, that page was hacked a couple of weeks ago, and we lost all access to it...
When we lost our French Facebook page, we lost the majority of our community of donors and supporters. This means that we are receiving much fewer donations now. We also cannot promote adoptions like before.
Another challenge is that we have found many dogs with major health issues recently. Their treatment is very expensive, and we have debts of several thousand euros at different vet clinics. Food is our main concern though, and whatever donation we receive has to be spent on kibble first, before we can cover any other bills."
"We began rescuing animals in 2001, when the government started to kill stray dogs in Bucharest. In the beginning, we kept them in our apartment. Before we knew it, we had 10 dogs and 15 cats living with us. Over the following years, and including several moves, we slowly built this shelter and association.
My mom (Anda) gave up everything in her life for this shelter, and I (Alina) am now studying veterinary medecine, because it is needed. Everything we do, we do for the animals.
Our support is needed because there are so many abandoned dogs out there... Somebody has to take care of them."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"We receive help with adoptions and donations from our partner association in France, and another association in the UK.
But now with our page and online community gone, we are really struggling to collect donations. We recently launched two online fundraisers to try and cover some of our bills, but we didn't even raise half of the required sum altogether.
Our association cannot make it on its own, we need people's support... We don’t have money to cover all these costs, and getting food has become our biggest issue..."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
