Animal Webaction visited the site 15 May 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Our association, which fights against rabies and dog overpopulation, tries to provide kibble to stray dogs that cannot be taken in once they have been sterilised and vaccinated. There are more and more of them and unfortunately we can no longer afford to feed them.
Our association, which was mainly financed by donations, is in its death throes. We also used to rely on restaurants, which gave us their leftovers, but they are no longer able to help us either.
As a result, with a total of 10 kilos of kibble in stock, I don't see how we're going to feed 70 street dogs...! I am torn and confused, I don't know how we will overcome this crisis. If this collection fails, I won't be able to find food for the dogs."
"The number of dogs in distress and in need of care is also increasing. My two shelters already house 90 dogs in total, and in the second shelter the number of dogs has doubled in the last four months!
The dogs have become more aggressive, they get into fights constantly, the stronger ones try to dominate the weaker ones. This will intensify in the coming days: I will have to give them rice, because I have no more kibble, and they will be hungry.
I also fear that some dogs will catch infections and that the most vulnerable ones will become even weaker. The situation is very critical, we need help and kibble to protect and help these dogs!"
"Messi is one and a half years old, he has been in the shelter for six months. He is very fearful and unable to assert dominance over other dogs. That is why he couldn't feed himself when he was on the streets, and why we isolated him from the others.
Messi is extremely fragile, he was diagnosed with anaemia on arrival and also suffers from leishmaniasis, an incurable parasitic disease.
It is essential that he is well fed, otherwise he will not be able to regain strength. If he doesn't eat well, his condition could deteriorate at any time!"
"Donations are still down, we have lost our regular donors. We also had patrons in the Events sector who used to make major contributions, but they too have been hit hard by the crisis and have had to stop helping us.
As a result, I have to finance everything with my own funds. Recently, I couldn't even pay the insurance for our emergency vehicle and I had to let go of a staff member because I couldn't pay him anymore.
I also have 3,000 euros in debts to the vet, other outstanding salaries… And at the moment, every rescue can only happen if a donor funds it personally — if no one is prepared to do that, the dog stays on the street! I can't do it alone anymore, I've become very stressed, I think all the time about the fate of the shelter, its dogs and the dogs on the streets."
"Our centre is the first of its kind to open in Morocco, we comply with WHO recommendations to protect stray dogs and the population all together. We also take in abandoned dogs, take care of them and find them families.
Since the opening of the centre, I have not counted my time or my energy, I have given everything to support animal welfare. Thanks to us and as long as we are there, the dogs will be safe in our area and no one will be able to harm them.
I hope that this crisis will end as soon as possible, I want our association to be preserved at all costs, because it is my presence and the presence of my association that protects stray dogs and dogs in distress from abuse and violence."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"Due to travel restrictions, all meetings are put on hold and we can't get help from other associations or organisations.
Also, our online fundraising is not working, probably because people can't afford it either! The target I set for my latest fundraising campaign was €500, but we only received €100...
I'm really doing everything I can, but this kibble campaign is my last hope of being able to feed the dogs and carry on my actions."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
