Dry food necessary
“We used to feed about 20 street cats, spread over 8 different sites. But recently, we discovered a place with 45 more free cats!
Our stocks of kibble have run dry and our financial means are not sufficient. We can only buy low quality food, and even then there is not enough kibble for everyone. We can only go and feed them every three days, which is not nearly enough…
All the cats are very thin. They are looking for the slightest trace of food and are starting to fight because they are not getting enough to eat… We are afraid that they will hurt themselves and some of them will start to get sick!”
“Taking care of 22 free cats was still feasible, but with the 40 new cats discovered, the situation became unmanageable! Many of the cats on this site are sociable and were probably abandoned… Most of them are not sterilized, so they have reproduced among themselves at a phenomenal speed!
Feeding them is our priority. But the one and only collection we were able to organise this year was not as successful as we had hoped. We had very little kibble, and our personal funds do not allow us to buy enough. The poor cats are so hungry they won't survive much longer!”
“Coco is a cat we have been feeding for some time and recently found very thin and injured on one of our feeding sites. We don't know how it happened, but the poor thing had a broken pelvis.
We took him to the vet and the wound has now healed, but Coco will probably remain paralysed. Unfortunately he is so wild that we will have to release him on site. Once he is out again, this lifelong handicap will make his life even more difficult…
It will be absolutely impossible for him to find food on his own. We absolutely have to give him kibble, otherwise he might die of hunger, as he is already very thin!”
“We found four litters of kittens, in addition to those we had already taken in. Some of the kittens were so ill that they had to be placed in care. Their treatments (antibiotics, eye ointments, serums, compresses, etc.) represent colossal costs!
Between all the medicines and the various treatments, we have already incurred €9,000 in veterinary costs since February! We don't know how we're going to feed all these extra mouths, once the kittens are weaned.”
“I have been involved in animal welfare for 11 years. I had my own cats and I also fostered cats that were at risk of being euthanised. Then I set up my own association to help even more street cats. It was impossible for me to close my eyes to the misery of the cats living outside!
Today, I devote a lot of time to this cause. But as I only work part-time, I don't have the financial means to cope alone, and help all the cats who need it…
Kibbles would be a great help to be able to feed them and make them feel better. Without it, the ones in trouble won't survive, and the more sociable ones will never be adopted!”
