Animal Webaction visited the site 07 June 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"I currently have 90 dogs at the shelter. I take good care of them, I put my heart and soul into the shelter, but with people not sterilizing their dogs then abandoning them, there are more and more dogs to rescue as the days go by.
I struggle to buy food for them all as there is very little to no donations. The effects of the pandemic are still being felt and people do not have enough money to feed their own family, let alone a pack of dogs.
Right now, I only have 12 bags of kibble left. I will run out of food in the very near future, it gives me shivers just to think about it because the dogs will start fighting and biting each other to try to avoid starvation. This is what keeps me up at night, I am having nightmares about it."
"On the one hand, food is an issue at the shelter when it comes to sick dogs. They need kibble to get better or their conditions immediately deteriorate.
On the other hand, dogs on the streets go wandering around in the city becoming aggressive when they are hungry so I try and feed some of them when I have spare food. Not to mention that dogs in the streets are already as weak as they can get, they don't stand a chance without help.
I feel torn most of the times, it breaks my heart to see so many dogs in need of help, affection and a home. It is really heartbreaking. This is why I leave them food, I don't want them to go hungry on top of that."
"Elly is about 3 years old, she is a breed dog, although you would never guess it given her current condition. I found her a few weeks ago in the middle of the wood, alongside her 5 puppies — they had been abandoned.
It is clear that she has lacked food as she is extremely skinny. She has started to eat again but she is still very weak, besides she needs even more strength because she is still breastfeeding her puppies.
If we can't give her food, she won't recover and all the family will be at risk."
"I have no help with food or vet care and too few donations. Before the pandemic, some restaurants would help me occasionally with leftovers, now I no longer get help on that side either.
I got into so much debt because of the many bills that I can no longer afford to buy kibble, and with nearly no fundings except my own money, I worry constantly about how I will feed the dogs, and I am not even talking about how to rescue dogs in distress or affording care.
I fear that if I won't be able to cope any longer, in which case the shelter would not run itself. What would happen if I was no longer here one day?"
"I founded the association in 2009, I used to place a few dogs with people I knew who had some spare space in their yard, and soon there were so many dogs that it became impossible to find new foster families!
This is when I realised a shelter was necessary and started to actually build it. It should have been a puppy-only shelter, as a public pound was being built as well, but the latter was full so quickly that I had to take in adult dogs as well, as I just could not leave them on the streets.
I am proud of how we managed to improve the shelter bit by bit, and of how far we have come. We do a great job in finding dogs a home as well, you should see how the dogs bloom once they are loved by a family."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I don't receive much support locally, apart from some occasional volunteering -- people have their own lives as well, of course.
One French association does help me with adoptions and sponsorships, though. I am so very happy when I am able to get a dog adopted, as all my dogs are craving for a loving home and a family to take care of them.
I am always really grateful for any support I receive, and I feel very lucky to be able to launch this campaign. I live for the dogs, they are like my own family, it would break me having to let them starve."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
