Animal Webaction visited the site 09 June 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"We are going through a crisis like all the other shelters, and we don't have enough resources to feed and care for all these dogs. The crisis has had a considerable impact on the management of our shelter, we have lost many donors who have themselves lost their jobs.
I feed them kibble mixed with bread, but I only have 45 kg of kibble left at the moment, I will be forced to ration the food I have no other choice. I am scared for them, I am afraid they will lose weight or catch diseases, I have already lost 4 puppies last week, they were not strong enough to fight the disease.
I am saddened to see my shelter in this state, the food supply is a serious problem, and the difficulty of finding kibble makes me terribly worried."
"The number of abandoned dogs has increased, my phone gets about ten calls every day from people who want to give up their dogs. But as it is, I can't save all the dogs that are reported to me, I have to limit myself to saving the urgent cases only, I will have to stop new rescues completely if I can't find any kibble.
The UMPA is recognised as being of public utility, our part is to receive abandoned animals, find them foster families and provide free care for the needy, but we can no longer take on all of this. The demands we receive for the care of the animals owned by the most destitute have also increased, and if we can no longer care for these animals, they too will end up being abandoned, it's a vicious circle."
"Anita is a sloughi dog who was among the ones I rescued from the velodrome, 5 years ago now. She had a broken leg, and was in a terrible state overall.
She still suffers from parasitic disease transmitted by ticks, with symptoms systematically triggered by fatigue and malnutrition, she is very weak, and also very thin. I am afraid she will lose more weight, get other diseases, while she is already very fragile."
"In 2020 we only received half of the subsidy that was allocated to us. In April this year, we only received a third of the grant for the year 2021, I still hope to receive the rest in the coming months...
Donations are running low, online fundraisings are not working like they used to, to reach 200€ on a fundraising, you have to wait 3 months. I can't buy kibble any more because we are in crisis, I have a large number of dogs in the shelter, not to mention the donkeys, cats and horses we also shelter, I can't face this problem alone: the shelter's monthly expenses amount to nearly 5000€, it's a huge amount.
I have debts of several thousand euros at the vet, others at the pharmacy, I could never continue without people's help and support."
"My love for animals led me to become involved in animal welfare to protect and care for them a long time ago. I have sacrificed many years for the welfare of these animals, I have sacrificed my money and all my energy for this shelter.
I feel great despair for the abandoned animals in the area, I can't bear to see them in this state, they deserve a good life. I would be so sad not to be able to help them anymore if this happened."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Morocco which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"I have tried to contact some foundations, but at best they help with some medical expenses, not with kibble.
Normally I do online fundraising, but unfortunately it doesn't work like it used to before the crisis. What awaits my shelter is unpredictable, I fear I won't be able to find kibble for these dogs. I hope that this collection will succeed, and that this crisis will end as soon as possible."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund.
