Animal Webaction visited the site 10 June 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"Currently, we take care of 105 dogs. We do everything we can to arrange adoptions, but for every adopted dog, there are always new dogs in distress that we have to take in. We have too many stray puppies in the city, because people are not yet aware of the importance of sterilization.
The food situation is really difficult. We are facing a lack of kibble and influx of new dogs into the city. We need about 60 kg of kibble a day, and we only have food for 5 days left...
I am very scared and I can't sleep, I'm always worried about whether I will have enough kibble for the dogs. I try, I beg, I ask for donations in all possible ways so that they can eat. I can't bear the thought of them not having anything to eat one day... I live for animals and for these dogs."
"The local authorities do everything they can to euthanise all the dogs they manage to catch. Our association is necessary because we rescue the street dogs, care for them, and keep them from being caught.
To date, over 3000 dogs from our city have been adopted... I am overjoyed that we have been able to help so many dogs, and that everyone knows that we are here to help.
However, finding kibble to feed all the dogs and keep them from the street is a constant struggle. I am always fighting for the dogs, so that they have enough to eat. We desperately need help so that we can continue our work and keep the dogs from the streets, where chances of survival are virtually non-existent."
"Wolfy is a four-year-old male that we rescued after he was hit by a car. We got a call from people living where the accident happened. When the vet and I came, there were a lot of children around, crying, and a lot of blood was on the road. The car had hit him and dragged him along on the asphalt with the rear tire.
His whole stomach was fried and his genitals were almost torn off... He was in a very bad state. Luckily, our veterinarians managed to treat him and save his organs. Today, he is doing much better, although he can't bend one hind leg.
He is a wonderful dog, and very playful, despite everything he has gone through. We desperately need kibble so that we can continue to care for him and give him what he needs."
"There are a lot less donations now because of the pandemic. It was already hard to collect enough food before, I had to beg for food all the time because it is quickly spent on 100 dogs. However, more people were employed back then and could make donations. It is much more difficult now.
The biggest problem is food, because they need it every day. And, in addition to food, every dog must be cleaned of parasites, vaccinated, and they often need other veterinary help. Many of the dogs we rescue have been hit by cars and need surgery."
"In 2010, a friend and I saw that the municipality was catching and euthanising stray dogs. This provoked a revolt in me: We could not let that happen, so we started saving dogs from being euthanised, and eventually created our association to legally protect these animals that we love so much.
We created the current shelter three years ago. There are three of us, two volunteers and me. We carry a great burden, worry, fear, insomnia. We work even at -20ºC. All we do is because of our love for dogs.
I am proud that the few of us manage to save so many dogs in the city. However, I can’t do everything on my own nor do I have space for all the dogs I would love to rescue. We need help, and we need people to change their mindset and behaviour towards street dogs."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Bosnia which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"We do not receive any support from the local authorities or companies. We used to work with a Slovenian organization that helped us with adoptions and donations, but they had to stop all collaborations because they got overwhelmed by the high number of stray dogs that need help.
All our funding stems from private donations. We publish a lot on Facebook, it is important to us to be transparent and show the work we do. Everything we do is built on trust. That way, we have made friends over the years who donate.
Despite these donations and all our efforts, we do not receive enough to provide for all the dogs in our care. We really need this campaign to succeed."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
