Animal Webaction visited the site 15 June 2021 and confirms the situation described below.
"There are about 100 street dogs that I care for. There are many strays all over the city... in the centre, at the train station, at the cemetery… People just dump dogs, it’s horrible. I wanted to help feed strays and take care of dogs in need, but I never imagined that I would have to deal with this number of dogs...
I am already stretching the kibble with bread and low-quality food to make it last longer, but in a few days, I will have no kibble left at all. This will affect both the street dogs and the other dogs at my shelter...
I feel terrible... I'm already lacking strength for everyday tasks, it’s starting to become too heavy. There are so many dogs in need. This campaign really means a lot."
"Sarenko is an old dog that lives on the street. He is about ten years old, and he is very calm by nature. He was injured deliberately one week ago, he had a big wound above his shoulder. Someone with a twisted mind had tried to cut his shoulder blade with a sharp object.
I took Sarenko to the vet, who stitched up the wound, but I see now that it is not healing well, and I will try to do something about that as soon as possible.
Sarenko is weak and sick, he has tumors that cannot be operated upon due to his old age and condition, and now he has the injury on top of that. He cannot get by on his own, he depends on me, and I need kibble to continue feeding him."
"Here at the shelter in Badnjevo, I take care of 59 dogs. And there is one more property where I take care of about 20 additional dogs. I put all my effort into providing the correct conditions for these dogs, depending on their needs.
I have dogs here who were in a terrible condition when I took them in, and they need to eat regularly, otherwise their health would get worse again. Some dogs need special care just to stay alive, and most of the dogs would not survive a lack of kibble."
"Cvrle was found in the dumpster. Somebody had tied his legs, put him in a plastic bag, and dumped him in the dumpster. All four of his legs were injured.
I took him to the vet, and he is doing better now, although one of his legs will probably have to be amputated due to his injuries.
He is only about three months old, and he is a very good boy. He has survived so far because I have kept him fed... He needs to eat, he depends on me..."
"I mainly finance the shelter and my rescue actions through donations by good people, but they are not enough to pay for all the food and other bills, including electricity. The pandemic has done its thing, there is a great financial crisis...
My most significant debts are towards the pet shop and the vet. I need medicines, blankets, diapers… recently, I had to vaccinate puppies that someone had dumped here... all this costs money.
Every time any problem occurs, they say 'call Zvezdana, she will take care of it!' However problems are numerous, it is just too much work for one person! Dogs get thrown out of their homes often, accidents and deliberate injuries by mean people and poisoning are common."
"About ten years ago, I decided to help dogs in need and created this association. The current shelter was registered four years ago. Taking care of so many dogs is taking all of my time...I don’t have weekends and days pass very quickly…
Feeding all of them, bathing them, changing the diapers of handicapped dogs, cleaning the shelter… when I finish all that, the day is over. I feel I can't be the only person in town solving all the problems associated with abandoned animals."
Animal Webaction has a logistics platform in Serbia which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I have a good relationship with the pet shop, and a Chinese shop has put up a charity money box for us at the checkout till. I don't receive the money directly, but instead I can use it to make purchases in the shop, things like blankets and bowls.
I have a Facebook page on which I share news on the dogs I care for. My association depends on the goodwill of people, and on donations. One woman is helping me with turning baby diapers into diapers for handicapped dogs... this helps me save some money.
All in all, I don't receive enough donations and help to fund all the kibble we need. It would mean a lot to me if this campaign succeeded. It would help take care of one big worry."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
